84 Turbo Coupe. I have the latch adjusted as low as it will go but the hood stays open about 1/4". Do I need to adjust the hinges?!?! HELP!!!!!
Has this car been wrecked? Are both hood locks locking when the hood is shut?
There are the two screw rubber stops that can be adjusted, then everything else is shims under the fenders. 1/2 inch sounds like an awful lot.
sounds like the upper rad support got shoved up..
I do not believe it was ever hit. It was stored for 9 years before I got it and nothing looks bent, kinked, twisted, etc. The latch must work as you need to pull the cable to get it opened and I have adjusted the rubber bumpers the whole way in and nothing changes. I can measure another car to see if the dimensions match. Thanks and I'll let you know.....
Is the gap up front by the headlights, or back by the windshield? I had one hell of a time getting a vented TC hood to fit my '86 Cougar. There were varying gaps all over the place.
If your gap is up front and you've bottomed out the latch and bump stops, I would agree that the radiator support has been moved.
or shim your fenders if you need the front end to come up to match the hood... mine had tons of them from the factory. One of my fenders has three 1/4" shims under it.
My car was never in an accident.
maybe they were repop fenders? you know, when they WERE available, they weren't the greatest fitting pieces, unless they were ford replacements
either.. it's a possibility :dunno:
Not mine, thats for sure... all the ford tags matched, and the car was painted only once.. and one of the bottom gaps on my door is about 1/2" and the other side is about 1/8".... thats how these cars rolled off the line... apparently close was good enough.. and there's now real way to fix most of the mis-aligning problems. The cars were welded together that way from day 1. So if anyone is having problems aligning there front panels, I suggest putting a straight edge across the rear quarter and see if it lines up with the front fenders, doors and all... It took me about 3-4 days to re align my car (with the hood on) before I did any body work. I did a lot of re-drilling and hole enlarging to make the car fit perfect front to back.
Btw... one of my doors still has more gap under it then the other. that will always be there unless I want to start welding filler strips on my doors... No one will ever notice it unless your looking under it, or as it comes screaming by at 130 MPH...lol
I really, really appreciate all the feedback. You guys were right. I contacted the previous owner and he said he does remember that his son removed the fenders at one point in time. I did measure a friend car and we both noticed the shims all over the fenders. Thanks a lot guys.............
