Title: New DD: '09 Lone Star Ram
Post by: cougrrr302 on November 28, 2011, 08:12:16 PM
Traded in my 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee Saturday for a 2009 Dodge Ram 1500 with the Lone Star trim package. I have to say, I love this truck alittle less than my fox bodies. It is sooo nice! 5.7L Hemi, 4x4, Crew Cab, Leather, Mp3 single disc with Bluetooth and Sirius Satelite radio, Power Sliding rear glass, power everything, Digital Driver Information Center, Steering Wheels Controls. Came with Bed Liner, Husky molded plastic floor mats, Chrome Bug shield. It has some pep, it looks amazing, it is super comfortable, and roomy. My two boys fit in their carseats with plenty of extra space. I've used it so much to haul stuff in the last 2 days haha. Anyway here are some pics.

I'll be working weekends now so I don't have to worry about extra cash for my increased Vehicle Payment haha. If I can find a nice car trailer I can haul the Bird around to get it going, and start my business.

i'm not a dodge fan, so i'm going to keep my mouth shut.. but do you know what year dodge started using those wheels? they carry the same lug pattern as 96 and older F150's/broncos and want a set for a project i'm starting next summer

They started using these wheels with the body style change I'm sure. 2009-2011. I love this truck. I was looking for a Sierra, but they were overpriced or too far away. I got this for a great price. I despised my Jeep. It was a hunk of junk. This truck is amazing especially because it's exactly what I needed and wanted.

Long before you were born, haha.

One thing to note: you can put the Mopar wheels on a Ford or Jeep, but not the other way...the Dodge had a larger hub and so the wheels had a bigger center.
Also the old(er) Jeep CJ's had that same lug pattern...my dad's '72 F100 has wheels on it that his CJ7 was rolling when he bought it. Man, I was a little tyke....still remember that day though.
Somewhere in the early 80's though, some Dodge trucks/ramchargers had a smaller lug spacing..those won't bolt to a Ford at all, but the others do.

lies i tell you, lies! i wasn't born within the past 2 years lol.. i was talking about those actual wheels, not the lug pattern.. i'm building an 84 F150 next summer and my buddy wants to use the newer ram 20's since they're a nice, classy, simple design.. unlike 99.999999999% of aftermarket wheels.. we need 'classy' wheels to fit the build that are big enough to fill the wheel wells without using tires with a giant sidewall.. the newer ram 20's are almost too perfect for the build, the absolute best option out there

I know exactly what you mean. I want to do something about the py base package wheels on my truck, but everything aftermarket that fits it is big and flashy and "crunk-y".

So my solution is to go with higher option package Dakota wheels when I can find a set lol

that Ram is nice for sure but I'll tell ya I definitely couldn't do it. Never mind the price tag, I just don't think I could drive it everyday. That thing's like the Cadillac of trucks. It's the same to me as the Lincoln Mark LT's and the pimped out Escalade pickups. I wouldn't be able to use it for anything. To me a truck is a tool and it will get used, beaten up and worn out. And I just couldn't do it to one of those lol. Heck I even had reservations about even buying my truck, base model as it is, but I just didn't want to ruin a 4 year old truck in such nice shape.

On the other hand though, I'm sure that bad boy is comfy. And if you don't mind hauling/towing with it it definitely won't let you down. And man do I love that bad ass front end on the new Dodge's.

btw, you need to fix your signature ;)

It's a beautiful truck for sure, I love it! It is my Daily Driver, but this bad boy stays clean. I have towels under the car seats, a towel on my seat. I work as a welder full time, so I make sure I clean up before I leave work. Black and Chrome aren't the easiest to take care of, but I've had my fair share of black vehicles so it's nothing new to me. Plus I've used the heck out of it so far. Filled the bed 5 times with stuff, I haven't hooked up a trailer yet, but I know this baby could haul anything, and I'm definitely gonna use it. I need to find a car trailer.

Sig fixed :)

although i'm strongly anti dodge, i have to say you picked a good year.. dodge is no longer building their own transmissions, so the trans problems of the past are just that, in the past.. someone correct me if i'm wrong, but i believe allison is manufacturing their transmissions now?

Allison is strictly GM. I don't know who makes Chrysler's transmissions. I heard that cummins is dumping Dodge.

apparently it was a rumor, keep finding forum threads that say nay.. but that's only for the diesel trucks, which are cummins equipped.. nothing on the regular non-cummins trucks after 5 pages of google searching

It's because the Cougar got immediate attention and even though the Ram has the factory duals, the Cougars growl is alot meaner sounding. I really want to do a Magnaflow Cat-Back on my truck. I love the way Magnaflow sounds. This truck has alot of power. I researched specs: 390hp 407tq and it gets all over it too. I've been granny pedaling it. Boy it likes WOT.

They're rated at 20MPG highway too, but if I had one, I'd never see that....:)
