Hi, my brake lights in my 88 couger xr7 just quit working but the light bubls arint out...im thinking its a fuse but i have no clue which on it is and i dont wish to get pulled over again lol. Would anyone know which fuse it would be for the brake light? Or might this be some otehr problem?
Thanks,
Mike
Check the wiring harness going to the brake light switch, under the dash. A common problem in these cars is for the wires to break off due to metal fatigue from years of moving back & forth every time you step on the brake pedal.
If I remember right there isn't a fuse for the tail lights is should be on a fusable link.
For '84 it is fuse #1.
Could be the switch itself, had that problem quite a few times in my last bird.
All of them, including the high-mount in the back window?
88 too.
It happened to me.
Do the signals work? Front and/or back? How about the hazards?
in addition,,,
the bulbs **can** be installed backwards. The sockets are soft enough to allow for this and you'll be chasing down a grimlin that does not exist.
