Post by: T-BirdX3 on November 15, 2011, 12:53:00 PM
Six hundred and fifty horsepower. Six hundred pound-feet of torque. Over 200 miles per hour. All for $55k!

Ridiculous! Good job Ford!

I need to earn more money!

Ford has made it their #1 priority to kick Camaro's ass.  Chevy just released their ZL1 Camaro a week or two ago (which is  impressive in its own right) and now Ford has totally eclipsed their numbers with this new Shelby.  We are in the hay day of pony cars wars right now...I just hope they don't get all Mustang II when they restyle it in a few years.

i beg to differ.. a lot of people don't know the importance of matching parts.. and how many people can make that much power with that kind of gas mileage? gas mileage isn't important to me, but i have to admit, that's pretty amazing for the power they're throwing at the tires

ford will prevail and continue to smack the s&^+ out of chevy.. the mustang already has the camaro beat on looks.. those things are down right DISGUSTING

Except what everyone is missing, Chevy designs their own pony car. Mustang has to sub it out to shelby to get a mean machine. What does that say about Ford's Engineering team?

Still a mean car, but food for though.

because carol shelby and his design team are second to none in the american car world.. ford would be stupid to discontinue that relationship. ford has proven that they have what it takes to build top-notch pony cars.. look at the new coyote 5.0.. i'm not a mod-motor fan, but i can't dispute the fact that 500hp stock is a great starting point to build a super fast car. at the rate ford and shelby are going, they're going to be guning for the corvette sooner or later

I would bet good money that the only reason Shelby's name is on that car is "MARKETING".  Kinda like GM does with their Allison transmissions (and did with their Calloway and SLP cars) and Dodge does with their cummins engines. If Shelby's name wasn't on that car it'd simply use another legendary name such as Boss 351. To say Ford couldn't do it alone is ridiculous....

The new Mustang GT w/5.0 is pretty amazing in stock form...way better than the Camaro SS.

Overall I think Ford is on a roll.  The new F-150's are awesome, the new Fusions are very nice, the Taurus is a great car.  Ford has come a long way with their interiors and I think the Mod motor has finally proven itself.  I'd say Ford's engineering team has nothing to prove.

shipping costs and exchange rates are a bit.. well.. you know lol

shipping costs are typically about $4000ish..
exchange rates works in our favour :)

but they need to be converted to RHD which is the big cost, and the fact that there is really only 1 place that brings them in and compliances them.
but.. getting off topic.

can't see what the numbers turn into when these thingshiznit the track.

probably pretty py for the amount of power.. 200mph makes it sound like they're geared for top speed.. a ring and pinion change could turn that around pretty quickly, though.. i'm estimating 12's with the untouched shelby setup

Well, effalcon, given all the other cool cars you guys get down under, not just from Ford but GM too, surely you'll oblige us the GT500 ;)

The car's got 3.31 gears. Apparently they tried something like 35 different ratios before deciding that 3.31's were best. Probably would be impossible to launch with any higher ratios...

For 50 f*ckin G's...I could pay someone to build a Mustang that would  beat that Shelby down. Would it look as cool? Doubt it. Would it say  Shelby in big gaudy letter on the decklid? Nahh.

Face it, I'm no lover of Chevy stuff, but they can make serious power  from an engine that weighs less, has less bulk (the mod engine looks  like a house FFS!).....The coyote is a great powerplant though, but I  don't have wet dreams about it either.

Gas mileage? Where did i say anything about that...?

As far as Ford smackin' the shiznit of Chevy...I remember only a few years ago when Camaros were batting around Stangs like hell wouldn't have it. Or maybe I live in a bubble...

My opinion: The previous GT500s look like a riced out Stang with an  ed high markup from the dealers...I expect no changes in the next  batch... :-/

I said it, didn't say you did.. it's just a fact that you didn't state in your statement.. the way i see it, i can spend 1/5 of the cost of a new mustang (or GT500), build my own motor to produce more power and spend the other 4/5 on gas in an OHV motor in an older car i would enjoy owning and driving MUCH more than the new .. can you tell i don't like new cars? ;)

and that was then, this is now.. the cramaro/mustang battle has been going on since the 60's.. they both shared the lead in the 'who's better' fight to the top and ford definitely had chevy pinned to the floor in a choke hold all through the 80's and early 90's.. of course chevy was going to fight back and take the lead again, that's how it works.. they're basically pushing each other to improve each other's products.. the funny part of all this is.. 90% of the time, dodge is just sitting back, watching the fight, without a worthy contender.. it makes me giggle :)

Hahaha. FYI, Chevy certainly has their own specialty team designing their "performance cars" just as Ford does. Although they are still done in house, so to speak within the company. Make no mistake, the GT500 is not subbed out to Shelby. The GT500 is, and has been built right on the same line all of the other mustangs are and Ford is certainly capable on their own. Shelby is just a marketing name sake. (excluding his 350 nonsense). Someone thought if he rubbed his old man balls all over the car they would sell more. I doubt it because the car speaks for itself. Either way sir, I'll stick with the non welfare company.

A company that steals money from taxpayers. What does that say about GM? Food for thought.

This thing looks cool:D.

Now if Ford could get it's act together and build the  2012 Mustang we ordered over two months ago that would be nice....

Did you order a GT?

Actually Ford builds the GT500's now, they started a couple model years ago. Shelby just puts his name on them.

You know looking at this and other 2013 Mustang pictures I noticed a difference from past years. The front of the hood no longer cover the top of the grill surround. Instead the hood stops short and the grill comes up into the front of the hood. It almost looks like the front is frowning. It still looks good but I think the 2005-09 and 2010-2012 front looks better.

The 05-09's were the best looking of the S197 'stangs, IMO.  I never could get used to the ass end on the '10+ cars, but they are growing on me.

I just wish my '07 GT had the 5.0!  (Although the 4.6 3v does move out pretty good.)
