I'm working on a wagon for the baby in our family, and I'm looking for some Go Kart wheels and tires as cheap as possible. The racing kind are what I'm looking for. I am looking to see what anyone here may have, or have access to. let me know. Thanks..
i have some 1/4 midget wheels/tires.. same as a shifter kart.. $15 per wheel with tire. the wheels alone cost 30+ each.. i have a ton of fronts and rears to choose from
just a few of the many i have in the loft
Ill take 4 how much shipped to florida
Thunder, sending PM
tag your it
ball's in your court! lol vinnie, no worries that he's interested in a set.. i have plenty to go around
I need 4 of them. Are they all the same size? Are there big-n-littles? How tall and wide are they? Thanks a lot.
there are fronts and rears.. the rears are wider and a tad taller.. i can't get exact measurements right now, as they're not here and my buddy is passed out.. but the fronts are roughly 4-5" wide and the rears are about 7" wide.. if i had to guess, off the top of my head, i would say they're about 8" tall
O.K., I'll take a set.
I gotta figure out how to attach them to the wagon now. Do they have the three hole design? I think I can make that work.
Just nice looking wheels and tires, front and rears for the little man's wagon. I'm designing it now and making the parts list and side rails plans.
yep.. they use a 3-bolt hub.. some use 4 but i don't think i have any of those
Sweeeeet !!!!
If any have good white letter tires, awesome. He's only 6 months old, but this will take a little while to build, so hopefully by next spring he'll be a little older than 1, and we plan on taking him to the zoo and this would be awesome for him to ride in. $$ or trade? I have an NOS console panel plate for dual power seats, NOS tilt lever, or $$ or a little of both. Either way, I need them, and hook me up with a nice set. You RAWK !!!
LOL cash is king, i need to throw some money at go-fast goodies lol.. shipping should be under $20, as it was for thunder (may be a little more than his since it was to go waaay west). no white letter tires unfortunately, i don't believe i've ever seen 1/4 midget tires with painted lettering.. but you could always paint something on them to give them that extra little pizazz.. i imagine you would prefer asphalt tires (look just like slicks and a harder compound)? the dirt tires have a few grooves in them and tend to dryrot a bit when they're exposed to the weather, because of the softer compound
Slicks are fine. I think I have the basic design figured out, and the color, which will probably be a dark blue metallic with clear coat, and custom graphics. I have a few other accessories designed as well, but before I put it all in motion, I have to really go over and over the ideas to make sure they will look right, and be the most bad ass wagon around.
The wagon is from the 70's. I picked it up today. Solid, but needs a lot of work and prep. That's half the fun.
that's pretty cool, never see many people restoring/modding vintage wagons.. if it'll help, i'll see if i have any front hubs around (fronts have bearings in them, rears don't). they only sell for $14ea new, so if i find some, you can have all 4 for $20 with the studs, nuts and bearings all included
That would be awesome. 4 front hubs if you can.No hurry, just drop me a PM whenever. I appreciate your help.
no problem.. i'll look later tonight or have my buddy look when he gets a chance today
Thanks !!!!!!
Hey Shadow, don't forget me.
i haven't.. just looking for hubs.. no luck yet
I'm in no hurry at all. Let me know when you get it all together and we'll make the deal. You know where to find me, and, thanks a lot.
no problem.. will let you know as soon as i find some, if i find any lol
great now I just found this, what to do!!!!
just a little out of my price range.

Mine will be cooler than that.
^ LOL.. pretty weird/cool looking.. just can't get over the weirdness.. lol.. coming up short on hubs.. i only found 1 and it's a broken rear hub (doesn't use bearings).. all i'm finding for hubs on ebay are 1's that cost $15ea + shipping
The rolling stock is a good start though. Gotta start somewhere.
i MAY be able to fab something up with some of the chromo that's throw-away material from the micro frames, would just need to figure out bearings
No big deal for the hubs. if you can't find any. I'm trying to keep it all cheap and easy. I can get one every week or so from Ebay if I need to. I can make it work. Thanks again.
ss are free material lol would be cheaper than the hubs and would only take me about 5-10 minutes to whip up.. only difference would be instead of it being a screw in wheel stud with a nut, it would simply be nut and bolt
I am totally good with that. You RAWK !!!
lol i have to go over there tomorrow and weld some front axles together so they can be shipped out, so i'll play with some s steel and left-over tabs.. just thought of something though.. i can weld the bolt heads to the 'hubs' to make them studs ;) makes life easier lol
The wagon will be feeling the love.
good news, i have 1 made up.. i just have to do a little cleaning up on it, but it didn't turn out half bad for a first try.. wound up just using 1/8" plate, marked the holes, center punched and drilled them.. then just used a hole saw to cut the center, slip the 1-1/4" OD pipe in and weld it up.. i have a funeral to go to and some running around to do tomorrow, so i won't be able to get the the other 3 until sometime over the weekend.. i'll post some pictures up for you once i get the other 3 finished up
THANKS again !!! No hurry. Just whenever is perfect for me. I'll be posting before, during, and after pics of this project for the little man. You've been a GREAT help.
no problem.. i love fab work :D
I love that you love fab work. LOL. I'm not a welder. Never tried. One day, I'll invest in a little welder, but for now, no dice.
it's fun until i have to build a chassis.. 1 chassis takes 3 2lb spools of wire, which is a lot of welding when you break it down.. lol
How do the hubs connect to an axle assembly?
on a 1/4 midget? basically just like a car.. same basic spindle design, but with sealed bearings.. this deign, a standard sealed bearing on each end.. i imagine you'll probably have to get some longer steel bar to run through the bottom to accommodate the much wider wheels, which you can get at any hardware store. you'll probably just have to slip the hubs on the new 'axles,' position them in your desired location, mark each side where the hub rests and drill for a cotter pin (in front of and behind the hub).. i'd recommend using a washer on each side, so you don't have the hub/bearing sawing against the pin
Easy enough, thanks.
yep.. just need an idea of what size the shaft is.. i'll go through my stockpile of bearings and see what i can find
I have no idea of the shaft size yet. I'll just make sure I get axles that will fit the hubs. I have to swap it all out anyway. I'm going to, eventually, order new suspension for it from Ebay. It's like $35.00 for the front and rear, brand new.
I was looking, and figure I can make axles from some heavy all-thread or steel bar from Lowe's. Not sure the diameter. Any ideas?
i would go with the solid steel rod, all-thread is flimsy and may potentially break. i only spent a short time over there (hardly even an hour) today and got the 'lugs' all welded up to the wheel surface.. didn't get a chance to look through the bearings.. i LITERALLY finished welding the last 'lug stud,' sat my helmet/gloves down and got drug out of the shed.. i hate doing family >:l
No worries, like I said, I'm not in a huge hurry. Steel rod it will be.
i'll have em done in the next couple days.. i know you're not worried about time, but i am lol i have 2 orders to frames and only waiting on the material to be delivered.. then it'll be about a month of continuous 8-10 hour days of bending/cutting/notching/welding.. can't wait until this side of the business is self-supporting enough to hire someone else to do all that LOL
LOL. At least you're working. That's a good side of it. I may be swapping jobs early next year, but I'm taking my time to decide. In the mean time, working on the Sport and a wagon.LOL
i suppose.. i'd rather keep pumping out front axles, wings and the parts that are manufactured by the machine shop until i move and set up shop again.. working in a 12x13 shed gets cramped after a bit lol
12x13? Yeah, that's a little cramped when you're trying to work.
yeah.. doesn't help when there are 2 vintage soap box cars hanging on the wall >:l
Stand in one place to work, and do not move.
basically :(
I'll be taking the "before" pics tomorrow of the wagon before I start working on it. I want to have a record of what I do to it.
sweetness.. and i should have 4 hubs and 4 wheels ready for you by wednesday.. provided i don't get drug into anymore post-thanksgiving :punchballs:
No hurry, you know where to find me. Thanks.
Shadow. Still got the wheels and tires?
Let's do some talking. I gotta get the wagon going.
