I haven't figured out the electrical issue yet. Still can't figure those two lights out.............

On the topic at hand. I'd figure they are on so someone could see the car while you're in the back seat making out with the honey of your choice.

OK guys they were used to worn cars the car was parked. Actually in NYC it was a law that they had to be on when it was dark out??? And left on all night when the car was parked and not running. Now think about this how long would you think a 6 Volt battery would last like this??? Not long. So the engineers designed a headlight switch with 4 positions. Park Off Running and head lights. The switch was rotated counter clock wise for parking lights and would only illuminate a very tiny lamp in the left and right rear tail light. This would not kill the battery overnight and was used for years. Untill the law makers repealed that DUMB LAW. Hence the lamps were called PARKING LIGHTS!!!

My Grandfather made a circuit to do this on cars that were parked for a long time to not kill the battery. Some of the older cars did not have the 4 position switch. I think the law was only in effect for a very short time. But that is what they were fore.

Parking lights also double as running lights.

My motorcycle has a park position on the switch. It turns on just the taillight when it's parked. I guess it would be useful if you park in a pitch black place so you can find the bike, but I've never parked anywhere I couldn't see my bike. :giggle:

Parking lights are also called marker lights. I thought they were to help other drivers see where the corners of your car are located better at night.
