Title: TC#3 "lone 4 banger"
Post by: Shadow on November 05, 2011, 05:16:37 PM
tomorrow is the day.. putting a deposit on another TC.. then just have to wait for the guy to pull the motor/trans so i can pick it up.. why no motor and trans you ask? i hate 4 bangers lol.. these are the pics he sent me of the car.. she's peeeeertty.. i think i'll just do a wet sand and re-clear coat it, as i really like the color combo and the paint is still in pretty good shape

Neat! Unique without being overboard.

that's what i like about it.. i'm thinking i might throw some blue pearl in the clear to spice the white up a bit.. we'll see how well it cleans up when i get it home.. if it turns out the white needs to be touched up, i'll block it down and respray it championship white when i clean and respray the engine bay, after i fill in all the stupid holes, of course ;)

What color is the interior? Also, I feel the need to salute it. LOL.

Not sure if I like color combo or not. It is very different and a head turner for sure. Looks like a solid car. Wish mine had snowflakes.

want some snowflakes? LOL i hate em.. i'm looking for cobra r replicas now as a quick solution til i collect everything to do a 5-lug swap. they're probably going to go to the syard if someone doesn't buy them locally.

i hate the 'american flag' theme.. the red molding stripe is DEFINITELY getting color matched to the blue.. don't know on the interior color, i believe it's blue/grey.. i'm mostly concerned about the body itself. so help me god, if it has the porno red interior, i'm burning it.. i HATE red interiors lol trying to decide what to do with it right now.. first things first, that header is coming off and getting listed right up on here and craigslist for sale/trade for a 4 eyed clip or another non-TC 87-88 header.. but not sure what exactly i'm doing for a motor yet

I like 10-holes better, but snowflakes are better than hubcaps!

Leave the red stripe, get a loud sound system, and crank up "Yankee Doodle". LOL
Title: TC#3 "lone 4 banger"
Post by: Shadow on November 05, 2011, 10:32:39 PM
ew no.. lol in all of my projects/vehicles, only 1 has a system in it and that's my little 85 yota.. single 12 with lanzar highs.. everything else i try keeping as light as possible with a simple stereo with an amp to power the highs.. the red stripe has to go though, or else everyone's going to say/think 'hey, flag theme' and i'll have a frown on my face.. lol

and as for the wheels, i don't like anything ford has to offer in 4 lug.. so i'm wheel hunting lol
Title: TC#3 "lone 4 banger"
Post by: Chrome on November 05, 2011, 10:53:41 PM
I don't like loud systems either. Too much bass makes classic rock and heavy metal sound odd, and makes country music sound like the circus came to town.
Title: TC#3 "lone 4 banger"
Post by: Shadow on November 05, 2011, 11:06:56 PM
i like them to a point.. they just have to sound right.. 95% of people don't know how to tune worth a .. a well tuned system will sound good with whatever you're listening to.. most people turn the bass  to max and try tuning out the distortion with the head unit, which is completely backwards.. i always leave the amp at 50%, tune the head unit, THEN turn the bass  towards max until it starts getting distorted.. then turn it back slightly. i love listening to mudvayne - dig in my yota, it sounds awesome in that tiny little cab lol

leaving in about 2 minutes to throw the deposit down.. gonna grab some interior and under hood pics.. not that under the hood matters, since he's keeping the 4 banger lol

deposit made, motor will be out by saturday night.. interior is blue, no gray.. i'll be changing that eventually. all in all, the body is a 7 out of 10.. a little wavey-ness on the doors, tiny bit of rot on the driver side 1/4 and some REALLY shotty body work where they 'filled' the emblem holes in on the rear pillars with body filler.. the white is py spray paint.. so i'll be blocking it down, fixing the rust, grinding out the bondo, straighten her out a bit and spray her championship white. the blue is the original color (may not be factory original, i'll find out when i look at a paint-chip book), it's showing through in some spots where the white is flaking off.. sorry for these super py pics.. my flash light and cell flash weren't bright enough to make the pics clear

ok.. motor WON'T be out by saturday.. the guy is now working mandatory overtime until thanksgiving so i'm getting the complete car for $450.. i think i may keep the 4 banger in this 1 until it dies.. ONTO THE TECH QUESTIONS!

I'm wanting to go 5 lug, and I'm wheel shopping before the swap, thinking about getting rid of my Cobra R's.
Title: TC#3 "lone 4 banger"
Post by: Shadow on November 09, 2011, 07:22:06 PM
that was originally an option, but then i saw a set on a notch with 4 lug.. they look funny being a 5 spoke wheel with 4 lug holes.. it's a shame that it bothers me, there is a set nearby that are only $375 with good tires

under the blue paint is it silver blue??? whats the paint code
if it is,and i remember that car being pretty rusty...
last time i helped work on it 3 years ago it spit a follower
 out.
Title: TC#3 "lone 4 banger"
Post by: Shadow on November 20, 2011, 11:51:35 PM
ed gobbo? on facebook he said it was his old car.. i looked it over fairly well.. the only serious rust problems are the driver's 1/4 behind the door/in front of the wheel and typical 'frame' rust under the hood.. it's not too far to be concerned with it right this second, it'll hold up until next summer when i can fix it right

and the guy i bought it from said it spit a follower on him, too.. he put it back in and it's been ok since.. that's definitely 1 of my concerns and main priorities right out of the gate

Post by: BJL on November 21, 2011, 11:12:38 PM
yea, i was helping him with it. should have a new TFI and tune-up parts when i was there. got the thing running good, got on it and hit second and dropped a cylinder and heard it clanking and knew what it was. they didnt want to do much more that day.
i was gonna buy it but was too late.

swap in some new lifters and a ranger roller and call it a day. or get a boport roller.
Title: TC#3 "lone 4 banger"
Post by: Shadow on November 21, 2011, 11:19:22 PM
waiting on boport to get stock in.. they're out of everything EXCEPT their biggest cam.. thought about getting a ranger roller for the time being, but tom renzo says big no no lol.. you happen to know what turbo is on it and if it's the stock cam? i didn't look because at first i wasn't buying it without the motor/trans

and it's kind of odd that gobbo got into birds.. i've known him since i was 15/16 from racing at airport speedway down in delaware.. him joining tst just proves it's a small world lol
Title: TC#3 "lone 4 banger"
Post by: BJL on November 23, 2011, 01:40:57 PM
im running a ranger roller in mine. its not the best cam. but it works very well.
i will eventually upgrade. but having a running car is better then one n pieces awaiting parts.
i have had a ranger roller in this car for over 5 years with out an issue.
if i had a adjustable cam gear i could dial it in better. but im not out for speed with the car either. just fun.
the ranger roller has been swapped in many TC's with out an issue. plus they are dirt cheap. and you get one step closer with having roller followers

insomnia is a bi.. female dog.. been meaning to do this for a while, but i've been slacking on it while looking into other things for other projects.. just a couple paint ideas i have.. i have more, but i don't feel like doing them now

idea #1.. duplicolor deep blue/duplicolor brilliant silver

idea #2.. duplicolor midnight blue/2 parts duplicolor brilliant silver, 1 part duplicolor jet black, to make charcoal gray

I put a ranger roller in my 89 stang. I didnt notice much of a power increase but I did get a couple more MPG. I miss that car it was fun to drive even if it was slow. It was balanced great for throwing it into some turns. My freind is giving me a turbo, manifold, and intercooler for free. I dont no what to do with it, I'd like to put it in my ranger but I dont want to hot rod my DD.

the cam in my head now is spitting rockers at WOT, so i have to switch.. and i'm the complete opposite, i CAN'T drive a stock daily.. but sometimes my 'daily driver' builds get too far out of hand, namely my capri and blue tc

I have the same problem. I dont want to neglect the cougar, she needs too much TLC (headliner, paint, exhaust, gears, wheels & tires, and suspension) to start another project.

and now the problem areas.. THIS is why you DO NOT drive these cars in the winter, if you want it to live a long, happy life..

and interior pics.. i'll be re-dying the seats once i get another decent day in the 60's.. dash pad doesn't look bad, only 1 crack.. so i may pop it out on a warm day, smear some vasoline on it and let it sit in the sun, so it doesn't crack more before i get around to replacing it

and i can see why it's spitting the followers, they're worn.. i'm just going to replace them for now, then upgrade to roller once i get the shop going and have some sort of income, instead of draining my bank account and leave myself with nothing lol

i said the hell with pulling the lower intake off for now, since i'll have the upper off for a while, so i can polish it.. instead, i decided to start on my fresh air intake.. i need to order couplers, so for now i just cut up what was left of my stock rubber intake tube.. i'll order all my couplers once i get ready to start on my FMIC plumbing, which will probably be next week

may not be a rod knock, i don't know yet.. here's a short video.. i have to do some investigating.. i know it's not a follower, i just put it back together after putting 1 back on.. they only spit out at load, over 4k.. the car hasn't been moved since i finished putting it back together.. my phone makes it sound a lot worse than it really is, i guess it's the py audio quality

anyone know if you can lift the motor high enough to sneak the pan out between the block and k-member, without disconnecting the trans?

that does sound like it. and no you cant. you can lift it high enough to do the cam. but lower end its easier to pull it.. its not bad, done it a few hundred times.

i'm hoping it's the followers, it does have that 'loose rocker type sound' and it seems to be echoing inside the valve cover.. the odd part is, i didn't notice it until i clipped my exhaust off, so that's what i thought it was, since the DP is still intact from the hot side, to the cat, but i climbed under the car and tried shaking it around, no dice

aaaah.. today was a good day.. goodbye disgusting TC header with no grill, hellooooo shag appeal of a 4 eyed bird.. goodbye snowflakes as well.. found cobra r's for a steal of a price, so i sold the snowflakes, put the car on blocks and now she awaits her 5 lug stuff.. i have the front rotors, i just need to take them to the machine shop to get the snout milled down a bit.. i'll do that once the wheels are here and i can measure them.. they're white 17x8 fronts and 17x9 rears, so they should give the car a mean stance and the white will match the current paint pretty well.. i'll probably powdercoat them silver when i paint the car

last shot in stock form..

and 2 of the cobra r's

and now she's a 4 eyed bird, thanks to brian (BJL) and i'll have a grill on the way soon, courtesy of David (MY83T).. without these 2 guys, i'd be left scowering the junkyards hopelessly trying to find a bumper, header and grill that doesn't look like someone round-house kicked it.. still need a couple things to finish it off, but the biggest headaches are covered.. thanks guys

it's all good, i'm only payin $10 each to have the snouts milled down while i wait.. i just have to get my lazy self over there to get them done.. as well as to the junkyard to get my axles lol

it would come in handy if we were closer together for other small projects i have though.. the machine shop i established a current working relationship with wants too much to machine 'ideas'.. i contacted them about making a special prototype front hub assembly for a jeep dana 30 to run manual hubs.. they wanted 600 bucks to make 1 pair because they had to make all the measurements and what-not! i told them forget it, it's not worth it to me for a friggin pair of prototype hubs that may not work without going back to the drawing board and making necessary changes

well, it's sad to say that the poor tc won't see much love for the next month or 2.. i have a ton of orders to fill for complete rolling chassis, frames, front axles, wings and a couple kawi ZX6R's to freshen up.. 2 of the cars need to be in florida in less than 6 weeks, so it's time to hunker down and start cutting, bending and welding so the frames can get sent off to the powder coater.. when they come back, they need to be assembled, paint the body and drop the motors in, before getting loaded up in a trailer for the 1300 mile trip to florida to kick some ass.. hopefully next year i'll be paying someone else to deal with the bulk of the frame building/fabbing

it's all good, i'm only payin $10 each to have the snouts milled down while i wait.. i just have to get my lazy self over there to get them done.. as well as to the junkyard to get my axles lol

it would come in handy if we were closer together for other small projects i have though.. the machine shop i established a current working relationship with wants too much to machine 'ideas'.. i contacted them about making a special prototype front hub assembly for a jeep dana 30 to run manual hubs.. they wanted 600 bucks to make 1 pair because they had to make all the measurements and what-not! i told them forget it, it's not worth it to me for a friggin pair of prototype hubs that may not work without going back to the drawing board and making necessary changes

Have you thouht about using early bronco hubs, they had dana 30s and manual hubs.

they don't fit the newer D30's, they're super stupid.. i was originally going to do it for my sonoma, but i snagged a matching D44/9" out of an EB someone was parting on craigslist.. unfortunately, i mentioned the manual hub idea to a few guys on another forum and they're interested in them, if they work.. they'll have to wait though, tis the season to build race cars

FINALLY, today i can finally spend some time on this sad sad car.. going to put the RR in, new plugs, new module, throw my front rotors on, FINALLY mount my cobra r's on the front and set her back down.. still need axles and rear rotors, just need to find and c00ch them up.. but at least the motor will be ready to roll.. hopefully

the front end isn't as ugly now.. it started raining shortly after, so i couldn't do the bumper :(

was thinking though.. may just spray her satin black, including all the glass/door trim/headlight bezels and paint the wheels a light-ish metallic charcoal.. that way, when i get started on the rust repair, it'll be quick and easy to keep her all in 1 color, since i use rustoleum wall paint and 15% acetone when spraying satin black

so, instead of racking my brain with hunting for cheap SN95 axles or c00ching 2 DS ranger axles, i um.. i went super cheap.. i drilled my 4 lug axles.. lmao talk about a SH*T ton of measuring, remeasuring and reremeasuring to make sure it was perfect.. only got the passenger side done today.. and only killed 1 drill bit :) but all in all, it turned out pretty freakin good.. i had to oblong 1 of the 4 lug holes, as there was no real way around doing so.. i'll just weld the back side of that particular stud so it can't shift at all and call it a day

Redrilling 4-lug to 5-lug is kind of sketchy.  I've redrilled 5-lug to 5-lug  (did the hubs on my Scorpio from 5x112 to 5x114.3) by redrilling between the existing holes.

I wouldn't consider ob-longing a hole and kinda welding the stud in place "good".  The proper way would've been to fill all the holes (or even the one that overlaps) , clean up, and redrill.

doesn't matter.. i'm just going to suck it up and get new 1's.. i fired the car up and threw it in 1st.. wobble wobble wobble.. pulled the wheel of, checked all measurements.. every stud is perfect to the thousandths.. fired the car up with the wheel off, 1st gear. wobble wobble wobble :(

yes, seriously.. it's not permanent, i'll be surprised if they even stay in the car for longer than a month

i was reading up on it last night, i'm going to use an aluminum slug, slip it in the oblong hole and weld it.. punch the slug out, clean up the hole and press the stud back in.. it's common practice for cars that don't have an actual 5 lug option, from what i have been reading.. for now, it's the way to go

i think it's time to pull her off the back burner and get her going again.. i'm ditching my drilled 4 lugs axles, since i FINALLY found SN95 axles.. along with that, i'll be ditching the M7 rotors and doing the full SN95 swap up front, too.. the main reason for this, is.. i want the mark rotors for the S10.. i just have to go and get the right bearings to make it all work, they otherwise match up perfectly..

anyway, back to the car.. aside from doing the SN95 stuff, i sold my IHI and top mount and bought a precision.. i just need to get a wastegate and bov before i put it on.. i'm going to hold off on the front mount, for now.. i'm going to run it intercooler-less just to scoot around the yard ans spend the money on an esslinger adjustable cam gear.. i'll pick up the front mount as the 'final thing to do..' i'm contemplating the header now, beings i don't need the car on the road right away and i have time to build it (we have an 04 taurus and my lo-lux now).. i also want to knock out some body work, rust repair and remove all the sound deadening before she starts cruising the streets.. most importantly, i want to at least cut and plate the rotting strut towers, until i start cutting the black car apart.. then i'll pull the motor, clean her up, freshen the bottom end, do some head work, slide in a boport 2.5 cam and put her back together

my new hair drier ;)

screw the SN95 front stuff, i want this thing rolling by this weekend.. picking up my pads, rear rotors and wheel bearings tomorrow, then my SN95 axles sometime between tomorrow and friday.. i have to drill and tap my manifold, because 2 of the studs snapped when i pulled the IHI off when i sold it.. then i can start the new turbo setup and get her moving again.. it'll be nice to spin the tires down the driveway again

can't find it when you're poking around with that wreck, smartass. Probably take ya less than one hour to find it or where the hell it is, if you could get off of facebook or s10fansRus.com or whatever..

You own or otherwise run a business, right? Hmmm.

Vinnie may not be the vengeful sort, but there are others who wouldn't think twice about spreading the whole story on every forum they've ever heard of.

Make it right, man. That's all anyone here wants to see you do.

wow what?

i made a tiny bit of progress today.. left my EGR port on the manifold open, since i still don't have my wastegate or BOV yet.. i rigged up some temporary turbo-to-TB plumbing, so i could at least start it.. i was shocked, it actually started right up (2 cranks) after sitting since i sold the IHI.. kicking myself for selling my topmount, as i can't find the intercooler i want, anymore.. all of my stuff should be here by saturday (brake parts, wastegate, bov, wheel bearings) so i'm hoping i won't have to work this weekend and i can finish putting the car together.. crossing my fingers

paint was still wet, so it hadn't started to 'hammer' yet.. still looks a million times better.. should look great when i paint the wheels.. if i paint the wheels.. depends how they look on a charcoal/satin black car.. will also look better once the rotors are on lol
