stangman.  Can you find a local one from a 4 cylinder mustang or TC?  There shouldn't be a difference between them.  And mustangs are much more plentiful.

Shredder.. you are the man. I just found one for 200 bones out of an 88 4 cyl mustang. I just got on here to ask, but you already answered the question. It will be replaced in the morning. I know it's simple as hell and I could do it in 2 hours or less. This shop is charging me 500 with me supplying the trans. They say its a 5 hour job, and also trying to tell me the only trans that will fit is an 87-88 tc. There are none at any junk yard atound here..  it! I'm just trying to get home. Lol. Thanks a lot.

Does anybody know if an 88 4 banger stang trans is hydraulic?  I hope they don't wanna add another 2 hours of labor just to swap that if it isn't. Ive been searching the net but couldn't come up with anything but cable clutches. Either way i'll get it in the morning, and if need be change it.

The tranny should fit fine.  Hydraulic or cable refers to the clutch setup.  It has nothing to do the the trans.  I believe the TC trans has a lower first gear.

No difference in gear ratio's from TC to 'Stang if they're from the same year grouping. Only the SVO used a differnet first gear in some years.

Too bad it happened before you got home. I still have the one in the tc I'm stripping. We could've added it to your list.

Haha.  Your right badbird. I did look at the gear ratios. They are identical. Guess they'll have to swap the bell housings. This is setting me back pretty good, so I may not be able to get the seats like I planned, but can get the others. Also do you still have the pass. Side front fender molding? The one by the bumper cover. Alright thanks guys. Trans will be here at 9.

That sucks man. That's the problem with breaking down away from home, you don't know who you can trust.

WOW!  $500 is awful high to pull your trans & install the new one.
I had a local trans shop pull my trans, tear it down & fix what was wrong, put it back together, & install it all for only $320 including $50 in parts!!!!!!!
I can't think of anything worse than breaking down on the road far from home.
Good luck getting back on the road home!

Thanks.. Like I said I'd do it myself for free if I had the tools with me. I hate this , they couldn't even find a transmission for me.

OMG!... they still haven't started on it.. I told them don't touch it. My buddy's picking it up and we're gonna do it at his house. Thank god for being in the military and having friends in almost every state.

That sucks man! You're probably better off not letting them do it if that's how they're treating you. It's good you have friends that can help you out.

Its good you found a way to get it done yourself.  We should establish a network of members who can help out of towners in their area.  Oh and I noticed you mentioned gear oil.  I'm pretty sure WC T5s use ATF instead of gear oil.

Yes, it was ATF I put in it.. Check out this picture of how we changed it with no jack or ramps in about 3 hours!! Dolly's sure do come in handy...X

Yes.. but 1st gear is kinda screwed with this transmission I got, I have to hold pressure on it to let out the clutch without it popping out. BUT... as soon as it moves it like engages all the way and I can let go, it don't pop out.. kind of weird ain't it? And 87IROC, you are right, that would be awesome to have a network of members to help out of towners.. I know I would join in a heartbeat.

I'm glad you're up and running! Are you on your way home yet? This weekend is looking nice so if you can stop out I'll be able to pull mine out of the garage.
