Looked like a pretty nice Cougar.
Mine would've done better.....if they didn't have radios to call for help.
Not with me behind the wheel...actually I wasn't even in the car. But the red car can claim the "honor" of running from the police. So to speak anyway. Two falls ago, before I started tearing it down, I was at a houseparty with people that were friends of my friend, didn't know anyone else there. He and I met at the local car show scene, we performed a lot of vehicular lunacy (Well...he did. I now realize daddy knew every cop in town and a lot of troopers so he felt the world was his playground). He and this other kid took my car to go on a beer run. Two patrol cars were at the grocery store parking lot and followed them out. He booked it, and ended up doubling back off a side road that circled back, and got away. There was a little bid of mud in a couple spots on the lower part of the car I noticed the next day and shook my head laughing, figured he cut through someone's yard or something equally asinine and surely unnecessary lol. But the reason I enjoyed the whole event was upon returning and him telling me what happened, the other guy saw him give me the keys back and exclaimed "Dude that's your car!?" ("Yeah man") "WOW that thing's almost scary!!!!" :rollin: The kid definitely didn't know what he was talking about, the "what" being a 15 second car haha. Though, a 3000-rpm converter and 3.73's probably made the wild impression.
......Oh....almost forgot...had 2 gallons on my way there being a cheap-ass as usual...didn't know what was to come...was to come, and when I got there it said E. :rollin: And apparently it didn't buck, sputter, or do anything other than scream the whole time. Guess it had the rare stage 5 VTEC fuel baffle we all lust after installed.
Perfect song for that video. haha. A couple of years ago I out ran the police in my bird only to be spotted 4 hours later by the same police car in the same spot on my way back through and chased again. Of course I out ran them again. I can only imagine how pissed they must have been.

220hp on the turbo coupe?
Yeah, they make up numbers all the time. There was one in ogden, with a miata that they said was a high performance machine. Other then being a miata, there was nothing special about it.
I drove a 1st gen miata once to deliver it to a customer after installing a roll bar. I stepped on the gas to see what it could do.... nothing happened.
I went to test drive one for a friend at the dealership, but I couldn't get into it, and he could drive a stick, so I talked him out of it.
In my dumber years, I could have done better then the first car. My stupid phone keeps dropping connection on the streetfire link, so I gave up on it till I can get to a computer.
Neither one did very well. Running in traffic is a guaranteed fail anyway, plus dangerous to other people.
long time ago when i was young and stupid...is the true.
i and my 88 merkur turbo coupe we are escape 2 or 3 times from police.
now i feel very irresponsible
Once upon a time when my car was still stock, I was coming home at about 2 in the morning (no drinking involved) and a truck pulled out behind me. I was going kinda fast and he flew up on my butt with his lights just killing me (shining right over trunk into mirror). This continued for about 4 miles till the turn came up for the road I live on. I live 4.6 miles from the turn and everything between is sharp turns and hills, all locals drive like their nuts on it, I'm a local :D. So I nailed the gas and shot through the curves going no slower than 80 and never saw the truck until this huge straightway by a cow farm. When I was at the end of the straight he topped the hill at the other end with lights on, turns out it was a highway patrol crash vehicle.... I pulled over, got REAMED. I kinda fired back at him about tailgating and his lights eating me up, and that I thought he was a drunk. I got chewed for a half hour but no ticket. He thought I was a drunk and I thought he was a drunk, go figure lol.
I was cruising around in the town I work in, about 5 miles away in my white Tbird...this would've been in early 2005, right after I bought it. Anyway, the cops had this house surrounded. I was sitting in front of a friends house just down the block. I went to leave, and to head to the road out of town I would've either had to turn around and drive thru all of downtown to get to the 4 lane....or drive past the cops and the commotion to head for the gravel. I chose gravel.
Apparently I made the fuzz question my motive, because one immediately sprinted to his cruiser and followed me without lights/siren to the 4 way stop, where Brookfield city limits end. To show my annoyance, I rolled thru the stop sign at about 5 mph (it was well after dark, had a good line of sight both ways, no oncoming traffic, etc). The cop sits there, doesn't give chase, but I know I wasn't getting off that easy. I was on a gravel road at that point, so I nailed it (as much as a worn out 3.8 'Bird can be nailed heh) and hauled ass to the blacktop that connects to the gravel road I lived on. Once I was on the blacktop, and well over 85 (again, no other traffic, as it was rather late) I met a deputy who was also head the other way at a high rate. He flipped a u turn, and I took that as my cue to get my ass home NOW.
Once I got to my gravel road, I left a trail of dust so thick there was no way in hell he was gonna catch me, until I stopped.
I got home, parked the Bird in a tractor shed and was letting my dog out when the deputy drove up, put his spotlight on me and yelled "Beau, slow the f*ck down!"
I was dumb, and had I been in a truly fast car, or there'd been traffic (or a deer) well.....
Running from cops is ignorant. Running stop signs is ignorant.
Learn from ignorant people. Especially when they didn't even do anything wrong. (Up till i rolled through the stop..)
That's the moral of my story. :-/
Of course the 'stang caught up, he had a cop motor, cop tires, cop suspensions, and cop shocks :dunno:
Yeah...because SSP's had that über Police Interceptor engine...they could outrun anything!
:shakehead
I guess it's the vinyl seats, the spotlight, and the blue coolant hoses that gave it the extra power over the standard LX 5.0?
So is it the new blues brothers mobile, or what?
My crownvic wagon has many of the same features as the police inercepter, including the heavy duty lower gears and traction lock.

this is why i hate cops, they pull stupid BS like that all the time around here, ESPECIALLY in the expeditions.. they'll get right up on my bumper with their high beams on.. then when they pull you over, they make special effort to shine that stupid spot light DIRECTLY into the mirror on the driver door, blinding you and giving you a migraine before he even approaches the car.. they flip sh*+ when you use your hand to block the light from your eyes.. jersey cops are super a-holes and define the police-definition of pig
[url]h
they still used those stang here on the thruway.... they're unmarked, and very, very fast... but I haven't seen them this year
I actually saw a cop shooting radar from a Ford focus one day
the jersey state police have several notchback high speed pursuit cars, i've only ever seen 1.. on a tow truck.. totaled.. lol
that's.. pathetic lol
Very, Very fast? Not really. They weren't really any faster than any other stock Mustang of that era.
every state is different.. while your mass. cars may be stock, the jersey high speed pursuit cars definitely are not.. i know a few of them have vortech's strapped under the hood, while the rest are running healthy FRPP crate motors
We have a couple of sting rays a chevy dealership loanes out to the cops, local and highway. I've see a honda civic they use to get people to race on state street. One time I watched a beat up geo metro pulling over people in a construction zone. A lot of the drug and gang units drive cts's and escalades.
this doesn't surprise me 1 bit.. perfect car and truck to blend in LOL
Weird...I fly by cops going 15 over the limit all the time....I usually get a smile. Now I did get into trouble with my escort wagon...one night decided to use a nice 5 mile straight away to see what it limited at....was doing 100 when I flew by a white car in a field access drive. I knew it was a cop and that it was either pull over now, or try and run through the now half mile away twists and turns. I pulled over before she even put her lights on and got a long warning and a ticket for 75 in a 55 lol. Another time I was using a loaner(grand marquis with the 4.6) my parents had while their car was in the shop to go to a funeral...shaken up I went for a cruise on my way home. Some prick was doing 10 in a 25 and blocking the two lanes on my side of traffic...so when I got a chance I punched it past him....doing 55 past a cop. Pulled onto a side street and by the time I came close to the next turn the cop was right there so I parked it. Got a warning.
Here is another TC being chased.

I don't believe it. If that's so then they certainly are not as delivered SSP Notch cars.
They can and do however, use recovered/confiscated cars how they see fit.
cars recovered from drug busts/impounds are used as 'D.A.R.E.' cars.. the notches may have been impound cars at 1 point, but the NJ State Police don't use them as they come.. there's a shop in central jersey (i believe) that handles all of the interceptors to load them up with all the fancy they use, that rebuilt the notches for troopers.. none of them are built to 'showroom standards'
Like I said, I don't believe it. That's not to say i don't think i could be wrong. Regardless, they aren't SSP cars (and certainly not as delivered SSP Notches). I can't see the state spending money to mod/maintain these ancient things with build motors and blowers either. 20 years ago maybe. Id love to see info on them. Till I do I call B.S.

SVT cobra turned to cop car.
Probably a little funner to drive then the crown vic :giggle:
Oops was replying to confiscated car post, and clicked wrong one!
The cops in my hodunk county where I went to high school have an '02 Trans Am that they use to catch speeders....pretty cool car.
Supercharged corvettes are very common with the highway patrol out here. Although I do not think every department has a car, specifically for chases, I would still say it happends more then you think.
I was referring specifically to the SSP Notches. I'm fully aware of what's out there.
"Now the police will use them to entrap people who otherwise would not have broken traffic laws."
FIXT
Can of worms....opened.
these cars weren't built recently, they have about 10 years of service under their belt.. and seeing as how there aren't many high speed chases in NJ, they're lightly used. they more than likely snagged the cars from the auction blocks at zero cost, in order to have a 1/4 of the money into them they normally would.. and lets be realistic.. why do we like foxes? it's not just the looks of the cars, but the great platform they provide to build on.. they're cheaper to build than 4.6 garbage SN95's and there are still plenty of companies out there producing parts for them.. so it's not all that 'unbelievable' if you actually break it down and think about it
cops and the BS they pull is just like the politicians pull.. and we have to sit back and deal with it the same way.. GET SCREWED and deal with the consequences.. i lost my license when i was 18 (after only having it for 7-8 months) because of d***bag cops pulling the usual of suspecting a kid in a fast car of being up to something.. they would pull me over for doing 2mph over the speed limit.. and to this day, i HATE cops with an undying passion unless a cop shows me he's a decent guy.. 1 of my good friends is a narcotics detective and he said uniform officers are notorious for nailing 'kids' because they think it's fun to watch them squirm
Perhaps. Still don't believe it.
I love how you bang on the snives. Arguably, the cobra based cars are better than a fox in every way (factory to factory) save for weight. Almost every car out there gains weight with age just like the average floppy wife.
Yes, there are. Lets face it though, the cars are old. Government doesn't maintain old junk, they purchase new stuff. The likelihood of staties rocking a 20 year old notch mustang us uber low and if they are out there, are obviously a specialty thing. I don't think I've seen an interceptor older than '01 if it was a ford. Otherwise they are chargers.
You lost your license because you broke the law. It wasn't their fault regardless of weather or not they were giving you shiznit for "whatever" reason.
i hate mod motors, what can i say? in my beliefs, V8's should all be OHV, not OHC.. i hate them and that's my opinion, i'm entitled to it.. but you can't tell me it's cheaper to work a 4.6 over an OHV 5.0, that would be a utter lie. do they throw down more power off the assembly line? sure, can't argue that, but they're still more expensive..
FYI, they're still running early 90's caprices around here in some towns.. other towns have de-police badged them and they're now 'township' cars for zoning officials and munil officials.. so it's not all that 'hard to believe' that they are keeping older cars in service
and it's not my fault i lost my license.. multiple times i was getting passed by people doing at least 10mph over the speed limit with the cop up MY ass.. in jersey, when you take drivers ed, they tell you to keep up with the flow of traffic for safety reasons.. there are people passing me in the left lane and i get pulled over? it's called profiling.. so tell me how that's MY fault.. i still drive the same way, but now i'm 25 and appear much older because i have a beard.. know when my last ticket was? OVER 3 years ago.. same cops, same towns and zero problems in over 3 years with the EXACT same driving habits.. and for the record.. my last ticket was for 'failure to maintain lamps'.. no tag lights ;)
Just for fun someone should do a photochop of one of our cars painted in police livery :rollin:
As just about everyone knows, making our cars fast is always a series of compromises...with my engine mods I've gained a bunch of HP, but my stock gearing (2.73?) makes it a a dog off the line but preserves fuel economy. The stock 87 computer has no speed limiter so top speed should be very good, though of course the suspension would need serious upgrades to be useful as a highway patrol interceptor. Still, it's fun to speculate :D
Thunderchicken used to have pictures of an 88 supercoupe motored car with police stickers
All and all, 90% of cars out there, if not more, are never brought above factory spec. On thing that fleet vehicles do a lot, is order a ton of the same vehicle. That way they do not have to stock 10 diffrent oil filters or work on 10 engines. Most cop cars are decommisioned after only 2-3 years of service out here. They have passed laws against them. Here its against the law for a taxi cab to have over 200k.
My experiance is, if cops are harassing you, its your fault. I've had two tickets in the last two years.one, I rear ended someone, the other I missed a speed limit sign. Before that I hadn't gotten a ticket in more then 5. When I was 16 I washiznit with at least 10 tickets my first year. And I can tell you exactly what changed, and it wasn't the car I was driving or how I looked. It was how I drove.
The station wagon has helped out some though. No matter how fast I am going on the freeway, someone HAS to pass me.
i can understand why.. a lot of people don't want to be seen going slower than a station wagon.. me included, but i'm not going to do 10-15mph over the speed limit to pass 1 like most 'hot shots' would.. lol
I stick to 5 or less over. 90% of the time or more, I'm in the slow lane with my cruize on.
Funny how much better of a driver I am after the two kids.
One of my friends had a 1970 Thunderbird with a 429 thunderjet in it. We outran and/or outmaneuvered The Man many times in it.
So, one of the reasons he got rid of it was, circa 1993 it was a rare and distinct car around here, so he sold it because you-know-who was always on the lookout for that car.
Too bad. it was in great shape; almost showroom condition.
