Ok.. So I was driving my TC on the interstate today. It was running and shifting perfect. Then all of a sudden, I noticed the rpms goin up like i was in neutral. I pulled off the road and tried starting out in 1st.... Nothing. I went through the gears and only 4th grabs when letting out the clutch...I had it towed to a shop, I am awaiting the call in the morning with news. My question is, has anybody had this happen? And what could it possibly be? Do you guys think i'll need a whole new trans? I'm just trying to get an idea of the expense i'm about to pull out my butt. Thanks a lot guys!
Also there was no jerk, noise or anything.
Bump
I wouldn't call it good. I can't imagine it to bee too bad without any noise or clunks or anything. But I haven't ever seen a tranny only have 4th, except on of the trucks at my work. Every bearing was gone, but 4 gear still worked fine, but it made all kinds of noise.
Ive been reading that it could be the input shaft or the shift fork. Supposably 4th is 1:1 and doesn't use a countershaft. I know nothing about trannys. Does this sound right? I should know something in a couple hours. Thanks Haystavk, I'll keep you posted.
your tranny is toast. start looking for a replacement. I have had this happen twice....
Sounds like the input shaft and cluster gears are toast. Do what ^^^he^^^ said.
Alright thanks. I know where theres one at. Guess I'll be giving him a call.
sounds like the input/cluster gear let go. when you are in 4th gear the input shaft is locked to the main shaft thats why it is the only gear that works. in all other gears the power gets transmitted from the input down through the cluster gears and then back out the main/tail shaft.
I still have a nice AOD for sale,A lot less than $1600! Contact me if your interested.
