Post by: Dansbirds on October 29, 2011, 07:30:23 PM
Spent this morning washing my Bird(in the snow) to put away for winter. My son has my Jeep at school down in FL so went and bought a new car which I will give to him as 4WD isnt much use where he is. Its a '12 GTI pretty peppy little carXXX

Sounds like a road trip to a warmer climate

I like the homage to the interior of the early cars with the plaid inserts on the seats.

My 1977 TR7 had a red plaid interior. SWEET!

Nice little VW.  If I had to buy a foreign made car, a VW would be my 1st choice.  They make some really nice looking cars IMO.

Nice. The only VW's I'd consider are the Golf/Rabbit and Jetta (in fact I had a diesel Jetta and loved it). They're simple cars that are no more complicated to fix than domestics or puppiesanese, and while the GTI it isn't the fastest pocket rocket, it is definitely the most fun to drive. That being said, make sure you heed the warnings you'll almost certainly hear about using VW-approved synthetic oil in that engine (not all synthetics meet this standard, you need Euro-synthetic). They WILL eat themselves with lesser oils. In particular the cam driven fuel pump will eat the cam.

I'm sure my shaguality will be questioned for saying this, but I rather like the looks of the 2012 Beetle, too. VW took all the girlieness out of it with the redesign. Lower, flatter roof, longer hood, and nicer interior, with the GTI drivetrain available and some really cool retro-looking rims. Once you get into the Passat and higher models they become over complicated nightmares though...
