The recall is still in effect (safety recalls never expire), but you might have a hard time trying to find out if it applies to your car. It only applies to 88 and newer, and they only replace it once. If it's already been done you're ineligible. The problem arises when you try to find out if it's already been done. Ford dealerships, and even FoMoCo itself, does not have easy access to info on cars over ten years old. I just gave up, bought the switch, and swapped it myself (turned out I was eligible after all, but what the hell, the aggravation was not worth $10 for a switch).

how do I get it out?

Wat size torx is that?

it shouldnt use a torx.... Or does it? If it is just the ignition switch, it comes off really easy. If it is the lock part you have to put the key in the run position.

The ignition switch itself is tightened down by these two torx screws with a tiny metal piece in the middle (maybe for u can't tamper with these)

It's a safety Torx...I believe it's a T-27.

Cut a slot in them with a dremel or hacksaw and use a screwdriver to get them out. Or even grind out that tamper-proof nub.  Replace them with normal bolts (allen or hex)

thx  guys

hopefully this fixes my problem...
I really want to be able to make it to Cat Jam and this could be the 10 dollar fix that has costed me hundreds of dollars in other stuff, and 3 batteries....

yeah it is fun to get off. When I switched out my sterring colums. I just hammered in a torx that was alittle bit bigger. It shouldnt be to bad either way. Still gonna be fun though

haha I was thinking about just hammering away... I dont have a steady of enough hand to slightly drill out that small nub.

I bought a set of the tamper torx at the auto parts stoore.. approx $8... Have used a small pair of vice grips to loosen them in a pinch...

ditto on the buying a set of  tamper torx bits. come in handy, expecialy when you dive into a tv or something companies dont want you messing with.

I'm thinking that's whats wrong with my '85.  I'd crank it over, and it would run as long as the key was turned sort of halfway between start and run. Let go of the key and it shuts off.  I think for the peace of mind I might replace the ignition switch and lock cylinder all at once.

I just got done bout 5 minutes ago replacing my ignition switch. I uhh, rigged, it. I used a t-15 i believe and tapped down the tamper pins alittle bit, then used the t-27 and pounded it in. Worked good. Saved me 10 bucks by using what I had. Couple pinched fingers but Its worth it. \

I had to remove the dash cluster trim to have enough space to mess with the rear screw on the switch. So that added like 5 minutes. All in all took bout 30 minutes

Well 1 of the 2 draws was fixed.
The ignition switch was one of the problems.
Now onto finding the draw in Fuse 8.
