Im putting on a new header, turbo, dump tube and turbo elbow on sunday. I'll start taking pics friday of the stuff. One question, what the easiest way to get the brace off that holds the turbo up when the header is unbolted?
unbolt from bottom of block, wiggle and cuss
Oh boy that sounds like a great time! thank you
That is the EASY PART!!!
Is It easy? Ive looked down there and i wasnt sure where it connected to the block and if i could even reach it or would it take some trick to do it.
The brace is held to the block with one bolt. 14mm if I remember correctly. You'll probably need a deep socket, as the factory bolt has a stud sticking out of it. I take the header/manifold, turbo combination out in one shot. Unbolting the turbo from the header/manifold just sucks in the car anyway.
Yeah im just doing it all at with one movement, Im getting an exhaust shop to cut my exhaust where the elbow meets the downpipe and its all one piece coming out! thank you very much for your help!
One more thing, i went to O'reillys but they didnt have the caps i need to block off the coolant nipples for the lines that run the coolant to my old turbo. my new turbo is only oil cooled. Any suggestions?
hose with a bolt or use a vacuum cap with a hose clamp. vacuum cap wont last forever but will work.
Yeah ive been searching the web and the hose with a bolt in it with a clamp is the way im going to go it looks like.
OK a
Tom you nailed it again!
Thanks
I have an idea that includes less work but im curious if it will work. I have my header wrapped up in heat wrap to keep everything cooler around it, so i was wondering if a could just wrap a heater hose up with that same wrap, if i could just run that heater hose from the top nipple to the one on the block? that way i just run one hose and it would be alot easier. What are your guys thoughts on that?
That sounds like you're fixing something with duct tape... just saying. from what has already been done to the car it would seem there is only one real option, to do it and do it right. I would listen to Tom on this one, and the next one... and the one after that... he's pretty much got this shiznit down to a science.
