Ok ihave been with cool cats for a while and have heard AOD mentioned alot im just wondering what the hell A.O.D is

Automatic Overdrive. If your shifter says P-R-N-OD-D-1 (six detents) you've got an AOD. If it says P-R-N-OD-D-2-1 (seven detents) it's an A4LD (only in TC's, XR7 Turbo's, 4-cyl Mustangs and Rangers). If it says P-R-N-D-2-1 it's a C3  (4 cyl), C4 (older than 1981 6 or 8) or C5 (newer than 82 but older than 86 6).

Better gas mileage on the highway.  However they're maintenance-intensive.  A good tranny for a car you still wanna daily drive, can still be built to handle power.
