One of the rear caliper bolts broke, and the caliper flipped up and got wedged between the wheel and the axle  destroying the wheel.

Here you can see how it was wedged, there was one piece about 4" long that was holding the wheel together that and the tire bead.:hick:

I almost had that happen on my front wheel.  One of the bolts came out of the caliper bracket off the spindle and the whole works came up and rubbed on the inside of the wheel.  Did squish the bracket slightly though so I had to run a tap through it to get a bolt back in.

Ouch. That looks wicked. At least the wheels are easy to find, and you and the car are alright. You can fix this.

Lucky..lol, I wish mine would have done that. At least it didn't come apart on the freeway at 75+, it waited until I was on the offramp...lol.

Wow that's crazy, at least you weren't going fast when it happened like you said. How long did it take to cut through it?

mine happened at 60 to 65, just it couldn't get a real good wedge effect on the caliper since I have 13" cobra brakes.

WOW, nasty surprise there!

I'm sure glad you weren't hurt. That could have been ugly.

Glad you weren't hurt Herb. That's freaky! I had a front caliper lock up on mine but nothing like that.
