Title: My new (to me) 87 Turbo Coupe
Post by: stangman_1987 on October 06, 2011, 04:05:55 AM
Hi t-bird and cougar fans.  I'm new to this forum and recently bought a turbo coupe. One helluva deal, $1500. It's a 5-speed that has been bored 20 over with a roller cam and garret turbo. Let me know what you think. BTW this is a fantastic forum and it has given me many ideas.

                                                                          Thanks guys,
                                                                            Clint

That's an interesting intercooler piping setup you got going there.  NICE BIRD! Welcome to the forum.

Nice looking car. Was it red from the factory? It appears to have painted again at some point, but looks great. You don't see too many red Turbo Coupes.

Yeah Vinnie. It was red from the factory, same color as in the engine bay... It was painted about 3 months ago as I was told from the previous owner. I just picked it up about 3 weeks ago. I can't remember what type of red it was, but whoever did it did a great job. The interior is also red, which I hate. I would love to find some gray and black leather seats and redo the whole interior to match. Thanks a lot guys for the comments, I've been wanting to get one of these since my mother had the 3.8L LX when I was 15, now 24. Awesome car. The guy I got it from also told me he did a 11.9s 1/4 with a water to air intercooler, but I don't know exactly how true that is. He didn't seem too much like a b.s'er. I do know that it's fast as hell running 20 psi. I would really like to paint it a midnight metallic blue type when funds become available. Thanks a lot for the compliments.. all your cars look freaking awesome.

Also, does anybody know if the Escort Cosworth 5-spoke wheels would have the correct offset/spacing to work on a TC? I think they would look really great and still say FORD on them. hahaha. Thanks guys.

Im not sure on the wheels, but I have to think that they would not work.

Looks nice and welcome :).

Any idea as to what shade of red that is? It's really bright.

Looks really nice. Seems like even back in the 80's I never saw as many of that model as I did the others.

You mean an original red one, with red interior? I really don't know but i would have thought the red would have been more common.
Actually now that I think of it, I think I have only seen 1 or 2 other ones in person. Thanks ThunderCat. I will be posting some pics of the interior soon... not very good at all, at least to me.

The dash has a pretty decent crack in it under that cover.  I will be getting a dash cap to install, but i am looking to change the interior to another color. Not completely sure if I should or not. Sorry it was dark when i took the pics.

Are you still running an air to water setup?  I'd be interested to see some more detailed pics. :)

I was considering that before I got my Big NPR Front Mount.

Sorry Carl. The water-air intercooler was removed before i purchased the car. I just was saying he had his best 1/4 with it. One of these days I'll go and get my own time.

Anybody know if these wheels will work. It's a great price. I know they're for a mustang. I was wondering if with the 19 front and 25 rear offset if the 17x10's would work without moving the quad shock since the axle is 3/4 of an inch longer than the mustang. Thanks let me know please.

the 17x10's will work perfect on your turbo coupe. the only thing you might have to do is remove the quad shocks or flip them for better fitment. i had 15x10's with quad shock for a while on my cougar till i upgrade to 15x12's in the rear.

I've got 17x10's out back and the quads had to go.

Love the red. I don't think I have seen one that color before. I agree the red interior has to go.

Personally I would do the 5 lug swap before I bought wheels
