Sorry to hear about the fire. It's always something. I hope you guys can get it worked out. Nice looking fuel rails on the engine. I had thought about a new set similar to those then chickened out.LOL. I also like the valve covers. I had a set, sold them, then wish I had kept them. Keep working, it'll all come together.
Nice work so far, really like the fuel rails. Just remember that stuff happens, keep your head up you'll get it. :D
I'd swap that water pump and front cover gasket while it's all torn down. It could save a lot of trouble later. It looks pretty old, and after sitting for quite some time, bad things can happen.
Big things take small starts ;)
Dash being fiberglassed. apparently most of the black from the fire wasnt bad and wiped off with a wet rag and the only real burnt part is where the resin is the thickest.

Dash sanded and ready for bondo/paint (probably going to go with flat black because thats the only paint we have that I think wont look completely ricey... Until I can afford to wrap the dash in tweed or leather.)

Got the front wheels on...Which were a royal PITA. Had to take the spindles, calipers, rotors, brake lines, and BBK springs from the mustang, put it all on the cougar, then put the old cougar stuff on the mustang so it would still roll around...Well, we probably didnt HAVE to take the springs, but when you're already that far... might as well :D But now that its lower, afraid the tire will shred at the top of the wheel well on the first big bump I hit...But my friend said he will take care of it...So Im excited to see what he plans to do.

Passenger side again...I know, it looks like it used to be a bumpercar.

My moldy fuel pump thats been sitting in a tank with a few gallons of 10% ethanol gas that smelled wretched. Looks like some kind of fungus was growing on it.

Another angle, see that little black hose...It had the texture of a wet gummybear thats been sitting in the sun. Touched it with a screwdriver and it just melted.

A close-up of the hose Im talking about, you can see where we touched it.

And a random pic I just found of my buddy's turbo setup before he blew up his garage due to a freak accident natural gas leak+fuel leak+spark

HEY !!! Getting the old Cougar together. Nicely done. I really want to se that dash in a good pic when it's done, before and after it's installed. One day, we need to hook up. You're really not that far away from Ardmore.
When we get it done, I think a cruise is definitely in order :D
This is the only pic I have of the dash before.

Sounds like your buddy has a problem with combustibles...
I was just thinking that exact same thing!
Lol nah, just really bad luck. He had the new braided SS fuel lines that he was going to install when he got home (which I in turn got) But when he pulled in the garage, there was a natural gas leak in the house+ the fuel line he was going to take off finally got a hole in it from the front wheel rubbing... He said shutting the car off was like pressing the detonation button, the garage blew and caused the fuel that was pooling in his wheel well to blow...Heres the only pic I have of the garage after.

Both the side door to the garage and the door that leads from the house to the garage blew in towards the garage...The door that goes to outside wouldnt even close again cause it had frame damage.
ITS ALIVE! still not road worthy, but it starts and runs :D Now I need to get some spacers for the springs to bring it up to a safe DD height, get the new tires mounted and balanced, get it tagged and insured, and get an alignment...But there were times I thought it would never get to this point.
Old/new FP compared.

The floater actually looked new in there...I know it wasnt because the top was rusted onto the tank... but everything in the tank was good.
Here's the engine bay now...No GT40 because we didnt have the gaskets at the time and the lower was cracked. The intake is really weird and not ideal with all those turns... but it will due for now.
