So I went to a junk yard about this time last year because they just picked up a 88 Turbo Coupe. This is the ONLY junkyard within an hour that has a Turbo coupe, and I don't even know if there are any in Atlanta/Nashville/Knoxville. So, I offer the guy $500 for the body parts, he says no. The next day he stacks the T-bird on top of another car and under another, destroying all of the body parts. About 5 months ago I offered him another $500 for the Engine, T-5, Rear axle, all the calipers, front rack, VAM, TMIC and ABS unit. He declines and about a month later, as just discovered today, takes it to the crusher. That's another fox gone, not even leaving this world an organ donor.
However! They do have a 83 TC and a 88 5.0 T-bird. Just so you guys know. I can get pictures if you want.
They must be getting some good money for the s.
There's an 87-88 tc at the pull apart in Nashville, saw it last time I was there.. You can go to pullapart.com (http://"pullapart.com") and check their inventory.
$260/ton so the $500 offered would have made them more money.
I'd have said I won't shop there anymore and that I would tell everyone I know that they won't sell you parts cause the s is worth more to them than customers.
That's what they would pay
you for selling s to them. They however, make a lot more than that.
YOu have a point and I should know that, my father runs a s yard.
LOL I used to work at one when I was a teenager, not fun.
Hard to figure out that junkyard mentality sometimes. I'd be interested in seeing the 83 TC if you can get some pictures.
Thanks...
I'll try to get over there and snap some pictures of that 83. It's rough. I love the cam cover though, it's a shame the short uppers can't use 'em. Can the tall upper clear the TC hood? Anywho, I offered them $500 to let me pick the drive train clean and take the remaining 2800-3000 lbs of car to the s. They already crunched the body so none of that was any use to me. They would have made around $800-900 off a s car. That's what pissed me off.
The 5.0 (4.9) HO 87 T-bird actually looks good, but they probably won't move it. I'll go snap some pictures tomorrow.
Junkyards don't care about us or our ancient cars. They never have and they never will. To them it's not a mustang, so they don't care. That's why I have one JY in town that I've developed a relationship with. They guy that runs it is awsome and gives me dibs on parts and all kinds of stuff. But most of the yards around here are like the one you mentioned. And that's why I don't go back to them. If they don't want my business, then they don't get my business.
Somebody swapped an HO into the JY bird? shiznit man, nab some parts off it.
Mahan's salvage here in Cookeville has some Thunderbirds (No TCs) and Cougars, but their prices are too high. He wanted $40 for a door panel, $20 for power window switches, and $20 for a sun visor. Also they don't let anyone pull their own parts anymore.
That's why the prices are so high. They have to pay someone to pull the parts. Unfortunately, that's the reality of most yards today. We had a yard here that would let you pull parts, but they finally stopped doing that too, due to the liability. If you stab yourself with a screwdriver taking a part off their car, they're in trouble. It's just not worth the risk for them anymore, especially when they can get $300 or more for a ton of s.
Well if you want to drive to Cape Girardeau MO, I have parts lol.
I had an old ranger shell, sitting in my driveway, a local yard had an 88 lx auto mustang 2.3l coupe. I asked if they where going to crush it, they said yes. I asked if they wanted to crush the ranger instead?
Thats the story on how I got my 88 mustang lx :)
Nice. Must not have been a salvage car. We have a lot of issues in TN with salvage cars.
