Title: 2.3 L turbo auto RPM at 65mph
Post by: jonyjoe101 on September 04, 2011, 12:16:51 AM
Since last year I've been getting about 18mpg on mostly freeway driving on my 85 mercury cougar 2.3 turbo automatic transmission (212,000 miles). To rule out transmission problem, the engine rpm is 2800 at 65mph does this sound normal for stock transmission/engine?

Yup at 65mph, with a 3.45 rear axle and no O/D, 2800 is in the ball park...

thanks for all the help, I will keep troubleshooting the engine now that I eliminated the transmission as my problem for low gas mileage.
