Title: Cold water from air dryer leaks to interior
Post by: Trinom on August 25, 2011, 04:19:32 PM
Hi, I have a problem with leaking water to interior. I think, it is condensed water from air dryer. If I make a sharp right turn, it begins to leak cold water directly to the gas pedal area (on my right foot :beatyoass:). I never noticed this problem before, although I use AC almost every time I drive my car in this unbelievably hot summer.
Here is the photo of the "leaking black box" (in the middle I think).

I have an idea, but I need your help. Can be cloged the hole under the AC reciever (dryer) on the engine side of the firewall? How to clean it?

Thanks

Yep.  Clogged drain hole in the firewall.  It should drain out there instead of on your foot. :)

use a small nail or wire to poke in the hole to clear of debris

I take it you are talking about the EVAPORATOR??? That would be a clogged drain hole as posted above. Clear it out and you will fix that issue. Then do not park it under a TREE any more!!!!!

The receiver dryer is under the HOOD. Your post was interesting because i had no idea what an AIR DRYER WAS. Now i know you were referring to the EVAPORATOR.

Thanks, I cleaned the hole and there was something like one liter of water (1 qt). I can't believe how fast it get cloged.

The reciever dryer dries the coolant, not air, it does the evaporator :-)

You are correct Trinom, the Evaporator core removes the moisture from inside your car(Dries the air), and the Receiver/Dryer takes care of keeping the refrigerant clean and dry(Of moisture).

Glad to hear it was a simple fix. It is somewhat amazing how much liquid the HVAC housing can hold!
