All you fellas that have a V8 tbird/cougar and the TurboCoupe hood...
What did you do to make the hood fit? My driver's side hood scoop ishiznitting the A/C compressor bracket.
Pics would be helpful with your explanation. Thanks!
Grind down the bracket. Or remove it. BTDT. ;)
I removed the steel bracket. The 4 bolts that hold the compressor down have been more than adequate for the Sport. On the driver side scoop, I trimmed down the rear two studs leaving just enough for the nuts to attach.
When I had mine on my 83 5.0, the scoop baaaarely cleared, so I just left it alone. Eventually, the scoop developed hairline cracks. The bracket must raise up and hit it when the motor twists while driving. That's the only way I could figure it made contact. So yeah, I would just grind it down a little.
Remove the a/c. I did it.
I swapped to mustang (foxbody) AC/PS brackets..
I'm about to put the AC components back on my HO engine...has all the Stang accessories, and have a TC hood...will i need to grind the bracket or the screws on the one scoop?
I have Mustang brackets and A/C compressor. There were no clearance issues with the scoop bracket on a TC hood and the A/C bracket (the hood was just installed this past week)
I did however, have a clearance issue with the bracket that mounts the Procharger. The Procharger bracket mounts to the front of the A/C bracket, which adds a 1/2" of thickness and height. This required the mounting bracket for the scoop to be trimmed 1/4". Though the bracket is thinner, both mounting holes remained intact for the scoop.
So the upshot is (in my experience); if you have Mustang accessories, expect about a 1/4" of clearance between the A/C bracket and the scoop bracket (assuming the front of the car has not been tweaked). If you have a Procharger w/air, expect to get the cut off wheel out!
