Title: Dream engine build?
Post by: Bruce M on July 11, 2011, 07:57:18 PM
If you where to build an engine with no budgit, what would you do. Keep it Fox related (2.3, 3.8, 5.0, 5.8C or W swap, Mod swap, or 460).

After I get around to swapping in my HO, I'm going to start building the SO motor. The plan is is to take my time and cut no corners. I want this to be my dream engine, no budgit.

Parts list
Eagle 0 balance 331 stroker forged crank
Eagle H beams
Mahle 8.5-1 pistons
DSS main surpport
7q oilpan
double roller chain
World product windsor sr. heads or AFR 205s
custom blower cam
Comp magnum rockers
Ported explorer lower intake
Kenny Bell blower 9 psi
and so on.
Im hoping for 550-600 RWHP with a T56 viper spec or TCI six speed.

What would you do?

custom grind cam
Weiand 8-71 with dual 600cfm demons
7 qt canton pan
all ARP studs
10-1 keith black pistons
moly file fit rings
Oil cooler
Methanol inj

granted... i'd never be able to drive it it sure would look sweet sitting in the corner though.

I thought about a mod motor like the new 5.0 ($6500 from summit), but I want to build something that I feel comfortable working on.  Some thing that wouldnt make me want to hurt someone.

Mine would be dependent on the car it would go in.
For my autox car, it would have to be a stroked 2.3(either 2.5 or tall deck 3.0
Fully ported esslinger arca head with full solid roller conversion
Boport 2.5 cam or custom grind
billet rods
and a turbo that could meet the rules for cp (52mm)
400-450whp

If its a build for my truck
take the 545 shortblock already in there and motorsport A460 heads, twin 1250 dominators and twin turbos.  easy 1500hp

Mine is..... anything that will actually run after I get done touching it.

I like your dream engine, I'm in the process of something similar (using a centrifical blower).

If I am reading your thread correctly, you intend to use the SO block?  If so, take a look in the tech section for some pics I posted showing a comparison of a roller block vs an early Mexican block and then a later post with an aftermarket block.

At 550-600 RWHP adding a good block to the dream will help keep all those great pieces from becoming a nightmare.  That is, if it becomes reality:D

Jerry, Great line!  There are times when my stuff resembles that remark.

I always thought it would be cool to swap a Terminator Cobra driveline into my 'bird.  I've been in love with the sound of those cars since they came out in '03.  I would probably leave it fairly stock except for a pulley swap, full exhaust, and a good tune.  That would be more than enough for me!

+1
Don't bother with that block at 400+ HP. It's a waste of money since it will kill your other parts when it goes boom.

No budget?  A 427 SOHC in a 41 Willys pickup.

Ford:
2.3 based-
Tall deck block, around 2.8 litres after bore and stroke.
Volvo B234 head, ported, larger valves, reground cams, solid "lifter" conversion
Fabbed header
Borg Warner EFR series turbo

Non Ford:
Oldsmobile 425
Stock block/crank
Aftermarket rods (If I could find stock length 7.0" ones?)
Custom ground cam
Edelbrock Performer heads
Edelbrock Performer intake, converted to fuel injection w/1200 cfm TB
Two Borg Warner EFR series turbos
1967 Olds flat top wagon to put it in.

I'd most likely go with the boss block but they make main and valley surpports that are surposed to stop block twist. But if you add up the cost of gridles and machine work it would be better to spend a little more to get the Boss block (it can be bored 4.125").

If anything other than a lima were to ever reside under the hood of my car, the coyote is on the short list. I'd probly stick to a single snail however.

Currently my dream engine consists of one with 4 intact connecting rods....

4.6 or 5.4 with blower, I think the thing I would like most is a "clean motor" all the wiring, vacuum lines hidden. Something I could drive everyday and still abuse.

My dream engine in a Fox car? You'll all think I'm retarded, but I'd love to drop a Duramax into a Mark VII. Money being no object it'd be built to the nuts (at least as far as it could be built without affecting durability too much). The rest of the car would be built up so that I could use it to reliably and safely haul a decent sized (24-foot-ish) camper trailer on a North American tour. I remember reading about a fairly stock Duramax engine powering a fox Mustang into the 10's and still getting ~35 MPG. Of course that's a non-Ford engine.

My dream Ford-into-Fox build would probably be something not too retarded, like an Ecoboost cranked up to ~400 horses...

Hey, I had 2 of them. they had 69' 429s w/c6s. first one wasn't tubed but the second one was. custom fenderwell headers. Very fun to drive and to keep going in a straight line at the track.

Oh yeah!!!
Id love to have a 351C too. Trick Flow makes a EFI intake for them now and Hooker makes swap headers too. I think my dream engine just changed.
