This thing isn't working....
you had this problem on the last board,, what error you getting?
i cant wait till everyone here see's this car.
here they are :D
didnt think you'd mind
78?
Interesting.
There's a couple things I'd change personally, but it looks like it's decent shape. I kinda like the ugly 70's puppies coupes.
There's a guy on TF that has put a 2.3T in one of those too...
Loose the stickers and the chrome wheel trim and that is a sweet ride. RWD puppiesanese cars from the 70s are pretty cool. I like it. :)
That and the moster tach :yuck:
There was an old Datsun that tooled around my neighborhood for a few months....
yah, I would drive that. :rice: :headbang:
pretty sweet, though i agree the chrome could go.
Thats BAD AS HELL!!! I would trade my cougar for it.
Too bad it isn't right hand drive.
very nice. ^_^ i like it.
Wooo I love 1st gen Celica's :)
Very nice. As Asian cars go, I'm a Toyo guy. Celicas and Celica Supras are wicked. I was actually looking for a Mk II Celica Supra when I found the TC.
And there's no point to RHD on this side of the pond. Owning a RHD car that you can get in LHD is pure rice, IMO. Having it for the sake of saying 'it's JDM yo'. Plus, it's a lot more dangerous to drive a RHD car on LHD roads. Three Skylines have been wrecked already this spring in Edmonton, because the driver is on the 'wrong' side of the car.
Thanks everyone! It's a 1977 Toyota Celica GT Coupe with the 20R engine. It's got a high-lift Comp Cam, J.E. Pistons, a .30 over bore on the block, exhaust header, brand new Centerline Wheels and Toyo tires, A.C.T. clutch, new brakes all around (including rotors and drums) a new exhaust system, and enough chrome under the hood to keep me busy shining it for days.
I've spent a good deal of time re-painting underhood parts such as the drip pan, it's support brackets, the fan shroud, and various nuts and bolts. The previous owner was really into bright colors under the hood and I'm making it all gloss black.
The interior is really nice. The front seats were done in leather and some kind of plush type material. It feels great to get behind the wheel. The tach looks huge in the picture for some reason but in person it isn't that big. He took out the E.S.P. panel and installed an oil and volt meter - I consider that to be a nice upgrade. The Grant steering wheel is so nice, too.
The guy used it as a show car and kept it in his garage for the past 8 years. He managed to get a pair of new fenders and proceeded to put the chrome wheel thingys on. I'm going to remove them A.S.A.P. and fix the screw holes.
Serious mods like sway bars, a strut tower brace, Konis at all 4 corners, Dobi-Sport coil springs, Toyota Racing Development limited slip differential, roll cage, fuel cell, and dual 45mm Weber carbs are in the works.
Chris
i like it, a lot
how do those things handle?
Do those chrome fender lips stick out farther than stock? If so, why not just grind them down, lead them to the fenders, and paint it as a solid piece? It would actually look like custom rolled fenders. Kind of a mild widebody.
Again, very nice Celica, man.
Drop in a Supra I-6 twin turbo then it would be THE shiznit!
Thanks again, everyone. These Celicas can be tuned to be track monsters. They are short, can have gobs of HP and torque, and are very easy to work on. What I'll do is post the specs on the chassis and motor.
As for the fender trim - they are screwed in to the fender. About 4 screws hold them in with a little rubber insert.
Chris
Speaking of which, I saw a Imported Nissan 300zx I had to blink twich to find out it was not the girl driving the car, but the guy who was in that car. I breifly talked to the guy at the gas station saying he was a importer, and he was taking the ZX to a looker for about +$20k
as back to celica talk, I'm not sure but can you just de-chrome those fenders instead? since it's screwed on.
Also, But I can't remember, sombody put a ford V6 in one of these lil celicas.
This era of Celica had everything from the stock 20R to a Ford 427 under the hood. Anything is possible.
The chrome things come right off, but I haven't had the time to remove them. I'm too busy repainting a bunch of stuff.
The 76-77 GT Coupe specs:
Wheelbase: 98.3 inches
Length: 174.6 inches
Width: 63.8 inches
Hight: 51 inches
Weight: 2,580 pounds
Not a bad place to start making a S.V.R.A. car out of.
Chris
come to mention it, ive never seen one at the SVRA events ive been to
I got rid of the chrome fender flares, the chopped rear coil springs, and I'm doing a complete tune up this weekend consisting of new spark plugs, oil and filter, and perhaps some polyurethane bushings.
Chris
MORE PICS! hehe..
Will do! I'll take some pics over the holiday weekend and post them here. I've painted plenty under the hood - fan shroud, the coil, the throttle linkage, EGR valve, the top of the charcoal canister, and various nuts and bolts.
I've also taken apart the front bumper and treated it for rust and reassembled it. It was clean to begin with so I was very happy.
The complete poly bushing kit should be in my hands soon so I'll be saying goodbye to every stock rubber piece on the car!
Chris
i also found that there is a scale model available of that generation celica
