Title: Biggest 15" tire on a TC
Post by: RDOG on April 13, 2011, 10:35:55 PM
I want to possibly stay with my ten holes, but a want to put some thick old school raised letter white tires in it.Like that Starsky and Hutch type look. Whats the biggest meatiest tire I can run in the back and also what should I run in the front. I want that old school street strip look. I want a tire that will safely fill the wheel well with a car that is not dropped or lowered at all.

are they 60's, 70's? In other words 225/60/15 or 225/70/15? Can you be more specific please. Thanks

Have you tried http://www.tirerack.com and looked up different tires?  They typically specify the width of rim for the tire that will get you the largest contact patch.  Too narrow of a tire will cause the outer edges to wear prematurely and too wide of a tire will cause the center of the tire to wear prematurely.

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=BFGoodrich&tireModel=Radial+T%2FA&partnum=56SR5RADTARWL2&vehicleSearch=false&fromCompare1=yes  Click on the tap that says "Specs"

The Mustang guys will run up to a 275/50/15 on the 15 X 7 ten holes but they wear badly.  A 255/60/15 is just about perfect as you can see from the pictures above.

I run 255/60-15's on my rear 10 holes.  It's a 27" tall tire.  I really wouldn't go any wider on a 10 hole -- unless you widen the rim itself.....

I have 235/60s on 10 holes, all around and no issues, either (other than noticed a bit of power loss due to the slightly taller gear I created going from a 225).

Don't laugh...with a bone stock V6, I need all the help I can get!
