Anyone else seeing it at midnight?
Just a few more hours, and the circle is complete....
Got my tix a couple weeks ago. I'll be there.
Me too.
Not seeing it in theaters at all.
Ya, I second that one. Too many freaks come out for things like this. I'm not saying all Star Wars fans are freaks, I like the movies myself. Just the people that go way out of the way to dress like the actors in the movie, those are the one I consider freaky.
Undoubtedly. I don't mind it though, as I'm a fan from back in tha day, and that's all part of the fun. Besides, have you ever been to a Star Trek movie? I got treated to a reenactment of a famous Klingon battle in the lobby before ST6 in 1991.
That was entertaining. I think the difference is, SW fans dress up for the movies. ST fans dress up for life. ;)
I agree I work with people on both sides, Star Wars and Star Trek. The SW guys are close to normal but everthing the ST guys talk about some how have somethning to do with an episode they have seen.
It is quite entertaining listening to them talk about which are better like the light saber vs. the phaser.
I'm smart, i'm gonna wait till tommorow, or even the weekend to see it. I'm not up for trying to fight the hordes!
Hey now! Actually I think it's kind of fitting that the Star Wars and Star Trek franchises (or at least a major chapter in each) is ending at about the same time. The last episode of
Enterprise aired last Friday. This is the first time in 18 years that a new Star Trek show has not been in production. That's pretty big. The franchise is 40 years old next year.
And everyone knows a phaser is way better than a light saber I mean come
on!*runs away*
At least the dialog and acting is better in the ST movies... ;)
I grew up with them both....
I like them both and have been to all the opening nights of the re-releases of Ep 4-6 and Ep 1 & 2, all the Matrix and LoTR movies.....yeah, I'm a dork... got a problem with that?
But Chuck...Kirk's rug. Come on. Chewie is a much better rug. ;)
Oh I like both, believe me. ST has traditionally done better on TV. With 2 new TV shows coming though, SW might have a similar cult following on television. But I've always watched the ST series, from TNG up until Voyager (I don't get UPN on my dish). They have some of the most human and prolific themes I've ever seen on TV, and they made for riveting television viewing.
However...even ST guys are jealous of lightsabers. ;)
no spoilers guys, im waiteing to see it on a monday or maybe thursday during work hrs so its not so crowded if possible. its hard to enjoy a movie while their are screaming freaks everywhere makeing it so i cant hear anything.
Now that i've thought about it for way to long i've realized something.... the circle is only 2/3rd's complete. Considering good 'ol Lucas has yet to write and film the last 3 episodes. If you're thinking about believing him when he says he's done.... just don't be surprised when the numbers from this movie push him into doing the last one's in 10-15 years. He'll do it, if not play a big role in it happening, it's all about the benjamins.
My thing isn't with the kind of people you'd see on that Triumph the Insult Comic Dog clip, (although I'm not really wild about any of the real obsessives, from any sci-fi show) my main dislike at this point is the huge marketing blitz/hype-fest.. but then again, that keeps me out of the theater for most movies these days. (last thing I saw in a theater was Goldmember, I think.. and before that, I think it was the last Batman movie.. and even then the hype was nauseating)
FOR
ME
TO
POOP
ON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So how was the movie already?
Well, it was a really long night but well worth it.
Visually, you've never seen another movie like it. Plot-wise, lots of surprises. It ties up a lot of loose ends (not all of them). I came home and popped in the Empire DVD to check out a few things, namely the Emporer's speech to Vader. The new footage filmed for that DVD makes more sense now. It was a sweet movie...definitely a must-see.
Oh yeah...lots of nerds, lightsaber toys and immaturity in the audience. I was definitely among the oldest people in the theater. What was cool was, the theater manager came in before the movie and offered to give away the very cool rubber Yoda statue that was in the lobby. The person with the best Yoda impersonation won the statue. We had 7 people volunteer; winner was pretty decent. I thought it was cool how the theater workers were just as excited as the audience, and they never pulled an attitude with anyone, even the mostly immature audience.
lol i figured that one out a longtime ago.. it's the same guy from the last move 20 years ago..
when i watched the first Episode and herd that guys voice and i said..SOB!!!
thats the Emporer!!!! a few people said y'a how do you know? that voice!!! thats the voice of the Emporer!!! and most people said y'a we'll see and i said mark my words thats the Emporer!!!
man i am so damm good with audio :D
Yeah, I knew that when I saw Ep1....just waiting for it to come around :D
The movie was definitely worth seeing. It has a chance to overtake ESB with me for the #1 spot of the 6, but time will tell. It is definitely the darkest of the 6 and there was minimal idiotic comedic relief to entertain the kiddies. If Lucas could have someone else write dialog for him things would improve markedly.
All in all though, the effects are stunning, the acting is marginal and the story is what it is (we knew how it's supposed to begin and where it's supposed to end). I'll see it again and own it on DVD when it comes out to add to the collection.....(http://www.fullvoidstudios.com/phpBB2/images/smiles/lightsaber.gif)
See it again, you will.
same here, although I'll be going this weekend to see it, nothin' like the big screen!
Star Wars sucks. Star Trek sucks. Nothing can even compare to Duck Dodgers in the twenty-fourth and a halfth century! :D
Joking apart, I have never been a big fan of these movies. I like them, but not enough to commit a couple of hours of fighting my A.D.D. to watch them. I saw SW back in the late 70's, the second one back in the early 80's, and that's it - didn't see the third one (to this day I still don't know for sure what an "ewok" is, though the 80's cartoon gave some insight), and I didn't see any of the three prequels. I must say, though, that I would like to see this new one simply because it looks to be a good movie.
A better movie, however, would pit the Millenium Falcon against the Enterprise. Race 'em or fight 'em, but as long as it's one versus the other it'd be cool :D
Only the one of the coolest little furballs ever  , second only to Mogwai's   !!! I'm working on genetically engineering both!! :giggle:
I went and saw episode 1 only because the girl I was going out with that night was cute and blonde, and cute! Needless to say I don't remember the movie but the night was awsome!
The last good Star Wars movie was Empire Strikes Back. Everything Lucas has touched since then has been - all the new Star Wars films, the Indy tv show, Howard the Duck, the Indy films, and things like Tucker and Captain EO projects. I hope for the best with this movie, but I won't hold my breath.
It would be hard for him to mess it up, seeing as he created these major plot points well over 30 years ago when he was a hungry filmmaker, a good storyteller, and very talented. But 25 years without a decent story to tell is 25 years without a decent story!
Well, besides the name "Ewok" being a phonetically reversed "Wookee"...
http://www.starwars.com/databank/species/ewok/ (http://www.starwars.com/databank/species/ewok/)
The Ewoks are sentient furred bipeds native to the moon of Endor..
Im not a fan of SW at all but a friend and i went to go see it yesturday night, i had nothing better to do so i went. It was pretty good actually makes me want to go see the other ones so i understand what the hell was going on.
Ewoks look like pissed evil care bears
I saw Ep3 last night, I thought it was good however it did not go beyond what I expected. 3 stars from me.
What I am worried about is the TV series that Lucas is handing over to others to make. It will take place between Ep3 and 4(a new hope) and tie up everything and focus on some of the smaller characters. Recipe for disaster IMHO, but we shall see.
Hey Chewie! Be sure to thank your people for the help on Kashyyyk. ;)
Turning it over to other people is going to be much better IMO. Look at 'Empire'. 'Jedi' had its moments too. As long as we can get GL out of his Steve Jobs-inspired Reality Distortion Field™, we'll be alright.
Reality distortion field? is that a new name for "internet chat room" or something?
How 'bout the Death Star VS Deep Space Nine? :D
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reality_distortion_field
Dude lives in his own world, therefore reality becomes distorted outside his field.
One rumor I've heard is that the guy who made Babylon 5 might be the one to do a SW series. There's a lot of mumbling about it, and he is supposedly starting a new series soon.
Firstly went and saw the movie at an IMAX theater, super huge is F-in Sweet!!!
Secondly personally I thought the most glazed over a few things that could have been more in depth. The fight scenes were shot to close.. epic battles even if on the one on style should be shot wider to appreciate the fighting and not just the fancy lightsabers.
Finally, irritated that that Grevious was sickly and dying, that like takes away from his vicious looks.
Grevious should've been more bada$$, I agree with that. Always sick and running.
If the people who did the Babylon 5 series do the Star Wars series I can see the potential for greatness... never saw the Babylon 5 series in it's entirety, but I saw enough to know it was awesome.
you know what kirk said at the first startrek convention? man you guys needs to get a life.
And one for the Star Trek fan.
Yeah I know it's bee a while, but this one is a classic. (Note: some may have already read this)
