Title: time to say bye (April Fool's lulz)
Post by: Beau on March 28, 2011, 10:10:40 AM
I watched with tears in my eyes Friday afternoon as my Sport went rolling down my driveway on a trailer behind it's new owner.
Movin' on, I guess. Thanks folks for everything through the years.

I also just sold my car. As my car pulled off with the new owner I was like my car sounds good!! The new owner is in Atlanta. The bird made it down there no problem.

I knew I made a mistake when I got ride of my '86 Cougar. That won't happen with the '97 Thunderbird.

Getting rid of your car doesn't mean you have to leave the forum. Because, after all, you'll buy another one eventually. You can't let it go, none of us can, lol.

Believe me, I know what it's like to get overwhelmed with a project and feel like it's become a struggle more than a good thing. I had so many parts all over the place I didn't see how I would ever get the car together. I just had to step away for a while and gather my thoughts, and realize, that every little piece I install, every fastener I tighten is progress. Sometimes progress is very slow, but it is progress. Patience is often times an art to be mastered. I have mastered that art. I have been accused of changing my mind a lot, but I'm patient about getting what I need. Ask Kitz how long it took me to decide on, and find a simple pair of valve covers. Looking back on the Sport, the time I have invested, the things I've done with it, I'm glad it happened the way it did. I got (and get) a lot of satisfaction building that old car, and I'm glad I can say I built it with my own two hands with a lot of moral support and tech support from my friends here, and it's something I can be really proud of.

Hey, I have to admit, I'm really picky about that certain "look" and feel of the car. I don't want it to look like it was just thrown together. It has to be right. Wait til the end of the year (or early next year). I'll make no further comments about future plans.

Not bragging about what was swapped, but about the work I did myself. I've had technical help, but the labor was done by me. I know the Sport and every single fastener on it. In some aspect, it's my version of the Thunderbird, the way I saw it in my minds eye. Lot's of thinking about what will and won't work, lots of parts hunting, and lots of effort behind it all. I built it.

No, that's what I'm talking about. Normal people who don't have soft spots for cars that they choose to work on, (like people who habitually buy new cars) would call that insanity. You know... [annoying voice]"if it costs more to fix it than the car is worth, you should just get rid of it and get a new car....nag, nag , whine, nag, complain...."[/annoying voice] you know the drill lol.
We call it.... Love.;)

'AKA Girl band"? That's because you weren't there. They were awesome, and you had to really experience it when it was new to get the full effect. There's just not many bands or groups that really put you in a time and place like that anymore. That's why most of todays music comes and goes. Not many will last 20, 30 plus years, and still be that popular. Yes, some people get famous overnight, but they don't last, and so many sound a like these days. No "Style".
Hey Jerry, remember Gallagher? The comedian back then? He had a long talk about "Style".

Yeah...shiznitty prank...I'm not going anywhere ( all the bad luck) and neither is my Thunderbird. I'm trying to put some effort together to bring home another 'Bird...just need time and a little money at the same time to make it happen.

Yeah lol, it definitely changed course a few times.
Sadly no progress on the Sport, about the only stuff I've done besides work and hanging out with/watching the babies is finishing cutting up the last few trees I've had on the ground for firewood, and getting carpet in.
If I can get all the wood flooring laid in Saturday, on Sunday I'll try to get rear apart, and get it ready to swap in ranger axles and drums, etc.
Vinnie, how do ya like your steak? Cooked good, or rare enough that the other side is still eating grass in the pasture? lol I'd say come up and I'd grill for us all, and have a beer, but you don't drink, and after that one Saturday night at the bar with the band that played at my wedding...I think I'm on the wagon from now on, myself. That was entirely too much beer for me....hangovers hurt like hell anymore. Ain't worth it. That probably would've paid for Ranger axles, lmao
So anyway..."game on"!

Well, I got an offer I couldn't refuse, I sold my Tbird. Ok, I'm not as convincing, lol.
Rush and Triumph were from Canada, when it comes to progressive rock.
I've been to many a show, but I can honestly say, that seeing Little River Band in the downstairs room of the Fitger's Tap room (brewery and bar in Duluth, MN) with about 50 other people packed in, was a great time. Their harmonies are just as tight live as recorded.
Another great show was George Thorogood with the Stray cats back in 1985 or 6, I can't remember exactly. Metallica with The Cult in '88 was pretty good, too. There's so many, I can't remember them all, lol.

I hope you're able to get some work done on the Bird. That always feel good to see some progress. I'm going to swap the bearings, seals, fluid and install my MAC differential girdle next week,as well as my ChuckW motor mounts......and install the new a/c compressor today after work.I want the Sport in top shape for summer driving and a few car club cruises.
Title: time to say bye (April Fool's lulz)
Post by: Beau on April 02, 2011, 10:48:26 AM
Vinnie, you're gonna love the Chuck's mounts. Definitely one of the top things to have for our cars.
At idle, it gives the car a nice little bit of vibration, nothin too bad, just right. I'd love to see what a nicely cammed car would feel like with those mounts in, at idle... I'm gonna try to get some stuff done when and where I can, most likely just reinstallin' the interior..but hey, progress is progress.
I need front calipers, tie rod ends, and to remove/replace the springs. (AGAIN!!!!!)
The rear...errr...yeah, pull the axles, backing plates, etc, then mount up the ranger stuff...after I get it all, of course. I ain't messin' with rear discs right now, I'm tired of the trickle effect, I just wanna get it to a reliable, mobile state of being lol.
A buddy has my engine yanker...if he's done with it, and i can get a chance, the engine will go back in Sunday night. Today's agenda consists of pulling up the wood in the front room, and replacing it. Thank gawd the ex wife took the little yap-yap ankle biter when we split...he pissed everywhere. Ugh.

95UOTE=vinnietbird;357016]I have a TFS-1 cam. Nice lopey idle. I'll report in this coming week on how it feels. I doubt with that cam I'll notice much difference. I could be wrong, though.[/QUOTE]
My cams a little bigger than the TFS-1 but with your 1.7s it has abigger lift the only one who ever said anything to me was a buddy who always drove Toymoters wanted to know why the car seemed to vibrate so much. I turned the idle up to around 950 and it's not bad but at 5 or 6 hundred you know there stiff mounts.

The Sport idles at about 900 or so. Seems to like it. I'll make an honest full report this week when I get them on.

Vinnie...does your camera have a video setting? You should take a 20-30 second clip of your sick Bird idling with a coupla revs, and maybe even a short clip of the engine idling, too.
Can't believe this thread has 71 posts lol...

I'll see if my wife can do that with her Ipod Touch. My camera doesn't have a microphone on it.
Hey wait, it looks like her camera may have that setting. Stay tuned......

O.K., my youngest is going to help me get a burnout video (a very short one), and an engine sound video. It may be a little while, but I'll make a simple thread with the results.
