Title: Wheel help
Post by: 88 Blackbird 5.0 on March 28, 2011, 01:16:48 AM
This summer, I'd like to buy black, 5-star rims for my Blackbird.  I want the outer part of the rims to be stainless, but the 5-star part (inner portion of the rims) to be black.  I found a style here http://www.americanracing.com/wheels/?wheelid=AR3373&siteid=1&groupid=3&page1=1 that I absolutely LOVE, but wouldn't you know it?  The  things only come in truck-sizes.  They start at 20 inches and go up from there.  :(

Figures.

Check out http://www.latemodelrestoration.com they have some nice wheels. They have a 17" 4 lug wheel that I want for mine if I decide to get a new set for it. they're the 79-93 Saleen SC Style.

I've been to that site before Jay, but I never thought about checking them out for wheels.  They've got a lot of nice ones.  That's for sure.  Thanks for the heads up on that. :)

A couple of other sites to check, Discount Tire and Tire Rack.  Even if you don't buy from them, both are good places to browse.

Tire Rack and Discount Tire were the first two places I checked out.  I HATE dealing with Discount Tire.  I see Tire Rack as a good option though.  It will all come down to who has the rims I want and pricing (the usual suspects).  Late Model Resto at this point looks to be my best option.  They have several rims I like at fair prices.

Those GT500's do look really good.  We need to see some pics of them on your ride.  :)

I checked out American Muscle and saw what their black/chrome FR500 wheels look like.  As soon as I saw them, I could hear them calling my name!  Those would look GREAT on the Blackbird.

This is the only pic i have taken since i put the wheels on and the car is dirty. also the 5.0 emblems are not in the proper place (too high)... since this pic i have moved them.  I'd get some better pics up but its raining.

Ever since I first saw a set of FR500's on a fox Bird...my mind was made up. Charcoal, polished lip. 5 lug, 17".

That's my plan.

Does anyone have a picture of what those Saleen SC wheels look like on a Thunderbird? In addition to that, would there be any complications in running the 17x9's without making any modifications?

I'm about to do some photoshop magic and see if I can't get the basic idea. I want the package you are talking about. Those rivets make it look 10 times as bad.
