Post by: 50tbrd88 on March 21, 2011, 01:57:32 PM
Need a driver side (not sure if there is a difference from side to side) power door lock actuator for my '88 T-bird.

Priced new at Ford and they are like $145!

Holy !  I thought I'd be smart and look them up at AutoZone.  $237 there!  I guess Ford is the bargain basp00get price this time.  Either that or some member here may sell you one cheap.  Sorry mine are spoken for.  (Installed and working)

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250686093753&viewitem=&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWNX%3AIT

It doesn't list it for our cars, but this was the correct one for my 84, just bought it a month ago.

I will check into that ebay one.  Thanks.

Check with this guy.  He has one listed for an '86 for $65.00.  It may be the same.

I pulled one off my passenger side for someone who never followed up with me. It's just sitting around. Look up if they are the same and if they are and you want it, PM me.  It does not look side specific.

I have a set from the 86 doors I stripped. I was told when I bought the doors they were new. I can dig them out and get pics if interested.

Have your Ford parts guy pull up the # for the actuator. Then have him punch that same # into the computer and it will list all the applications that it fits.  I did this for a driver side window motor on the 84 and found that it was the same as the right rear on an 84to? town car....dime a dozen.

60 bux.... they come with interchangeable top rods for use in a myriad of cars.....

Protip:  When installing a new actuator, lube the rod with grease.  Moisture in the moving parts is what kills them.  I have them seize up before the motor goes.

I never even thought of looking there!  One of the members here is sending me a used one but if it goes out I will be looking at late model restoration for a new one.

Thanks for the tip!

Sounds as if they were binding from the get go.  It's funny.  Here's what I've been through.

My passenger door actuator is the original to the car.  The original driver side took a  about 5 years ago.  I ordered a replacement from the dealer.  It lasted 9 months and the motor burned out.  $135 down the drain.  I then found the LMR ones.  First one lasted a while before some moisture got down into the rod and froze it up.  I think this was from leaving the window cracked by mistake one night while it rained.  Second one is currently on car.  I made sure and greased the rod before install.  So far, so good.
