Title: 4 turbo to v8 (88tc) fuel pump issues
Post by: Soul on February 14, 2011, 02:45:33 PM
Ok, Did the v8 swap on my 88 tc (turbo coupe) and now the fuel pump primes and stops, what do I need to do to make it run with the engine? Also my fuel regulator isn't working, http://www.summitracing.com/parts/PFS-10653/?rtype=1 this is the one I'm running, it was adjusted to 9 lbs and when I adjusted the thing it jumped to 15lbs and no matter what I do that is what it stays at. Did I blow the guts out of it or something? I made the fuel pump run but grounding the test pin on the connector just to hear the motor run. I appreciate the help btw :). I'm looking at buying a fuel pump relay and wiring it directly, if I do this I can get rid of most of the factory wiring, well after I sort out what goes to the brakes and what not.

Here is what I did on my swap for the fuel pump.  The extra wires that you see is for the fuel pump feed back for the A9L mass air computer. My relay is under the passenger kick panel by the computer. I just simply found the Pink Black wire that went back to the pump and spliced it into this setup.

ok, so the green is the fuel pump relay from factory and you spliced into it with a hot wire from keyed power source?

First off did you stick with EFI or go carbed. Where did you mount your fuel pump relay. what wires did you take were for the relay.

if you went with EFI you should have a plug that matches the gray connector i used in the pic there should be 3 wires used in the plug
Yellow -Hot all the time I think
Red -I beleive this is the switched wire
Tan -ground or netural

If you have this connector you should be able to wire the relay in color for color and then simply put the Pink/black wire on the fuel pump.

The extra wire I was talking about is the black wire that I spliced into the Pink/Black for a fuel pump signal back to the ecu

That grey connector though, is that from the harness in the rear on the fuel pump or from somewhere else? Basically all i've done so far is pull 2.3 put in 302. I ran 3/8 hard line from back where I spliced into factory gas line, I split the power off the dist plug from the 2.3 and hooked to my HEI dist, that is all the wiring I"ve done so far.

You say you ran a 3/8 line was that a return or pressure line my regulator chatters with the small factory line and if you run that reg with the return blocked it will wreck the reg?
I read a thread somewhere it said that if you ground the fuel pump relay that you could get the pump to run continuously

The reg is hooked back to the return line at the tank, then feed all the way to the front.

If your returning fuel back to the tank you should be able to regulate the pressure down. The problem I have is the return is to small and the regulating port chatters but I still have good pre

It has to be regulating it some what as that is a walbro 255 lph pump in tank and would be putting out 40 lbs otherwise, right? and the return line worked for it factory with the 4banger so it should be large enough?

I have no problem regulating it down the extra fuel just goes back to the tank it just chatters a little. I have a 87 T.C I thought I had a 195 lph pump and I'm not running lean. My plugs are a nice coco brown. Although I am worried though when I start to run a 175 nitrous shot if it runs lean ill go with a bigger return and a bigger pump.

I'm taking a break from it this weekend. I guess I'm going to either put another reg on the fire wall and wire in a relay off a keyed ignition source and work it that way. I'm open to suggestions. Mostly I don't understand how the fuel pump is told to run, I know that
1. Key is turned pump primes
2. pin 22 on comp is fp
3. Wire runs to IRCM on fender
4. Wire goes to Safety in trunk
5. goes to Fuel pump

I just need to know what tells to run after truck is running and what I can splice into, failing that I'll do my above Idea.
