I'm finished with my 87 TC parts car and need to get rid of it now. I looked through craigslist and called a couple of those "we buy any junk car, any year, any condition, title or not!" ads. Well apparently, they don't actually mean ANY condition because as soon as I mentioned it had no engine/tranny they said they couldn't do anything with it. I even have the title in my name as this car was my daily driver for a while.
Should I rent a trailer and haul it to a s place myself? I'm concerned this method would actually cost money instead of making me money. Call one of the craigslist ads that ststes "free removal of junk cars," as they probably want it for s? Any other ideas?
Oh yeah, the car is in rolling shape because I put all the Cougar suspension back on it and it has tires that hold air also.
You can probably rent a tow bar cheap and still make a couple of hundred. Harbor freight sells tow bars for like 60 bucks to.
I've just had the guys come get them and haul them away for free and I assume they just take them in for s themselves. Worth it to me just to get it out of the way, and avoid the hassle of trying to get it someplace myself. They even hauled it onto a flatbed as just a shell (no suspension).
hang on to that header panel for me? please?
Got a guy coming to get it for s for $50. I was hoping for a bit more, but it works for me.
I'll hold that header panel for you 88turbo.
Would you be up for yanking the carpet out before he comes? As long as it's not nasty or terribly torn and cleanable I would be interested in it, Plus it saves me alot of work at the junkyard. ;)
I know it seems heavy, But as soon as you pull the dampening off the back it should weigh about 11 pounds.
Just fold it up, Shrink wrap it up and mail it out?
No worries if not. or if it's in bad shape.
Thank you buddy :)
Sorry, the guy showed up pretty quickly and the car is gone.
no header panel?
Yeah, I did pull the header panel off, not the carpet. Sorry I should have specified instead of toying with your emotions. :P
If you would've hauled it off yourself you could have gotten in the $2-350 range even with no engine and tranny, given you had the means to do it, that's what I got for my old cougar, with no motor, tranny, gastank, almost gutted interior, no light buckets, etc. Then again, sometimes it is easier to just let someone else deal with it.
Last check s out here was $9. a hundred. I have had some cars really weighed down and never got close to 2-350. I need to use your s play 20th, lol
The U-Pull-It's around here will give you a price based on factory vehicle tonnage I think, which is great because they don't care if it's missing anything. I sold them a rolled shell of an SHO one time, no motor, not a usable part on it, for $175, and they towed it away.
Now, I managed to get $350 for a 94 T-bird from a private U-Pull yard, but that was pretty much a full car. And they towed it away as well.
The problem with Vegas, is that the yards are so far away, it's not worth the drive to go get the car, so I can imagine you having trouble getting much for it.
I just took a small load to the metal recyclers, and I think we're at about $250/Ton right now for steel.
Electric motors are $0.30/Pound, and 6061 Alum is $0.75/Pound
When you s a car here, there is an enviormental fee. They will not take a car at a s yard unless you have the fluids and whatnot drained at a state approved facility. Otherwise, you have to cut it up.
Last car I junked, I got about $75 with engine and tranny. In running shape, a junkyard will give $150 to $200.
Just sping a set of heads and junk tranny got me like $40 or $50 a couple of years ago.
It would have been nice to get more, but I am happy with the amount that I got considering I didn't have to do anything to get it.
about 2 weeks ago i sped my 95 discovery with a blown motor and no title and got $350 from one of those craigslist guys. took about 2 1/2 hours for everything to be done. probly exported, maybe scapped who knows. couldve got more from parting it out but nowhere to do so.
theyll give me $250 for my tbird but im reluctant to junk a running car just because i cant keep it where i have it stored anymore, arghh...
Around here, if you can drive it in, you get 200-300, if they have to come get it, you get like 150ish. That's at the junk yards. For the recycler to take it, it has to have no gas tank, and no fluids. Some of the recyclers only take them cut in quarters with no glass. That's too much work, lol.
I usually expect remorse, depression, and regret, when I s a car.
same here... cars might be made of steel but they still have feelings :(
Yes, it's why I haven't yet forced myself to get rid of the shell of the white 'Bird. Either that, or I'm too cooch to **** with it in the cold.
Actually, that car took everything (which is considerable) that I threw at it and wanted more. It's rusty, crusty, bent, beat, and butt ugly now, but I still have respect for it. I just wish I'd had the means to finish what I started with it back in 2006. Ahh well, there's a few parts of it on, in, under, or in a box to go on the Sport...and I have a lot of pics of it.
Sometimes you gotta walk away from something, and make a new start. Soon as it warms up, the shell will be going to Tbird heaven. RIP.
I dont know why cars get such low prices without a motor. Hell we got $350 for this thing, no axles, trans, t-case motor was in pieces and the block was cracked. Guy even drug the thing up purdy new roll back too.

yea umm you should definitely take it to the s yard yourself. Before you do remove the radiator, condenser, cat and aluminum rims if you have them as they are worth decent cash. ****, cars are going for $200/T here. You can usually expect to get at least $300 a car nowadays if you do it right.
I used to send many a car to grave (most were so rotted messed up they werent worth anything as is) and we always stripped them down got all the aluminum, rotors and drums and everything off the car first.
Maybe next time I will take it to the recycling place myself, but I think this time the $50 was a good deal for me to not have to mess with it.
Noooooo DON'T DO IT!!!!!!!! Let the birdy live!;) jeez I'll give you that much for it first!
