What stud bolts are folks currently using when doing this mod? Where are the tapping holes drilled?
Zip ties baby...
did you really ask this???? lmao!!!
pls do share,, curiosity is killing me : )
Those and duct tape were my first though, after I had a hard time trying to relocate the alternator. I'm not worried about the A/C compressor, at all, so it's now gone.
88turbo, I've got to ask as it's beyond my level of expertise. Since I got my 'underbird, I've been doing more and more automotive things on my own :headbang:
I've just about got the heads on, but am also having issues with fitting the cylinders. The waterpump seems to be the biggest issue, as it's got nowhere else to go.
You're doing it all wrong, you pull the motor forward and slide the cylinders down behind. Use a broomstick to extend the tranny shaft. Wrap the finished product with boat chain in an "X" formation to hold it to the k-member.
I don't get it... :(
Does the boat chain cross-reference with any other type of chain? I'm not finding it in the JC Whitney catalog.
LOL!!!!! Now that is funny! I think... ? :)
:rollin: I...........Cant...............Breathe......................:rollin:
So, I got the cylinders slid in behind the engine, as described in a reply above. Now I've got an issue of the front of the cylinder heads hanging over the radiator and the cylinders I installed aren't covered by anything. Also, the heads are preventing the hood from fully closing. What did I mess up?
I hope its coming together ok, maybe your reading to deep into it. If your coffee pot and fridge are both plugged in then that is exactly why the cylinders are not full.
check thier depth with a hook line and sinker but be careful, the pistons have teeth.
You actually take the heads off, and close the hood. Lay the head gasket on top of the hood, and trace the cylinder holes. Get a jig saw and cut the holes in the hood. Don't forget to drill the bolt holes too. Now, lay the heads on the hood, put the bolts through the heads, through the hood, and into the block. Now, not only do you have the two-cylinder bolt-on almost finished, but you have just completed the hood-head-gasket mod! You have to do this toward the end, because opening the hood again wasn't covered in my manual...
What about the rear cylinders that aren't covered? Should I use the other half of the cookie sheet I didn't use in the oil pan extension to cover the two cylinders? Also, what if I just cut holes in the hood for the cylinder heads? You know, holes a la 87/88 Turbo Coupe ;)
this is where the dryer vent tube comes in...
I hope your not using a fiberglass hood. I've heard they don't seal very well and you might end up with a blown hood gasket.
was just reading up on the pie plate flywheel mod, seems its good for about 100 extra horses.
Now there's an idea! Any thoughts on which brand is the best? I know Libby's is a classic but I've heard good things lately about Sara Lee.....
lmfao. Blown hood gasket....
Well, I hear the stock hoods aren't much better when we're talking the original 3.8L Esshag block
Don't forget to add the hamster wheel. You need the extra power to spin those two extra cylinders.
But, if I add that, I'll have to rebalance the crank shaft.
no worries, the extra bits of pie left in the pie plate flywheel will make up for that.
I lost it at the "blown hood gasket" hahahaha.....I got to pee...
that's why you have to be extra careful;)
Hey listen, while your at it, you might want to consider adding an electric supercharger. 1 PSI of boost is the perfect compliment to a two-cylinder bolt on. At least, that's what I've read.
Btw, this is going to take you well past the 1 Gal of American Fury mark. Where are you going to end up now? I'm guessing 1.6 Gal, Commercial Size.
You don't need to buy the electric supercharger for the extra pound of boost just use a good dryer tube and mold it to your fan box in the dash and blamo extra boost
I already have the dryer tube running from under the front bumper, into an old hair dryer my wife had (well, not really old, it's the good one she uses all the time) that feeds the intake. One of the absolute positives is it's got a HIGH and LOW setting ...two stage turbo :headbang:
You hear that, gumby, you're going down :headbang:
You could also take your AC evaporator from out of the dash and mount it inline with your dryer tube under the hood in front of the hair dryer for an intercooled CAI....
Or go even further and plumb your freon lines through your intake coolant passages and have a permanent cold air intake!
I didn't see anybody address the exhaust...with the two-cylinder bolt on it's always a good idea to get heavy duty ler bearings as they are stressed pretty bad. I like to wipe them down with halogen fluid when installing...then I top off my headlights as necessary. Good luck!
I am sure he replaced the ler bearings when he added the dual Folgers Can exhaust mod...
This mod is so BA i had to come out of hiding lol. I need to do this to my Crown Vic, V10.5 cop car FTW:mullet:
dont forget the injector grease for the first start up.
No doubt. Might as well recirculate the exhaust back into the motor to, free supercharging FTW!!!11
i actually took the time to read this? hood gasket?
Hey, this is some good engine tech. Why move it to the non-technical lounge? :(
I thought it was helpful. I was considering doing it to my next v6 car....
:bs::bs:
Amazingly this is the only post I could use this smiley on
dont forgot, when adding the weight of a supercharger, you must re adjust the johnson rods during alignment procedures, otherwise, the wheel might be off.
also, take your smog pump, feed it into the air intake, and put a smaller pulley onit, gotta be good for a pound of boost. easy.
add the appropriate stickers, and your on your way.
I actually did something similar to that:rollin:
The stickers or the johnson rods?
or a smog pump supercharger...
after reading this i couldn't help but try all those mods. now the car runs better than ever! So i focused on interior. the old magnavox vcr display (with some thought) will fit right in the dash! a crow bar and double stick tape is all you'll need for the install. I was also able to build a nifty tatoo gun with what was left of the vcr!
Mangle to fit paint to match
