I have the regular speedo and today i get into the car and see that the speed is not showing up no numbers/letters anything. The cluster and everything lights up but i can't see the numbers. Any fuses i should check? something with the harness?
Can you see them dimly or at all if you change your viewing angle ?
nope all i can see is the green light
HMMMMM let me do some reading and I will see what I can find
Like, you can see the green light behind where the numbers show up, or is that part just dark?
Is the speedo the only thing not working?
yeah everything works except the speedo ohh also when turning on the turn signals they dont flash just stay still. its all green
Turn signals on the dash or outside the car or both?
both i believe and its not the harness because i just spent an hour unplugging and plugging it and the problem is still there.
Im still reading ... I dont think its a fuse every fuse related to the speedo has something else on the circuit
If you shine a flashlight to the speedo can you see the numbers?
nope no numbers show up even with a flashlight pointed at them
This happened to me a while back. I burnt out a fuse. I didn't think it could be, I looked through the manual for a fuse layout and certain things that the book said were on the circuit still worked. It'd pull the fuses just to see. I know that's what it turned out to be. I want to say my four way blinkers still worked, I could be wrong, It was a while back. I see your car is a Lincoln, but they are probably similar.
the center of the cluster where the top steering cover comes in contact with a very fragile ribbon / flex print harness.
when that part is intermittant or the runs on that section are broken, it can lead to having a completely good back light situation but no LCD display of numbers.
I suspect the steering column cover has been off before. "correct"????????
Be honest, it helps to have the background.
Did this suddenly start happening or what?
Its pretty impossible to damage this flex print unless there is several assembly / disassembly tasks in the past.
I broke mine when I did the 199mph speedo mod to the speedo module so, I cut the flex print straight across where a couple of the silver solder runs was cracked and soldered 24awg wire across each path.
still works great plus it "hardened" that area of concern.
let us know.
where does it say that? profile says bird
user has no sig so i had to look when you said that.
oooh i havent thought of that maybe that's the problem yeah ive removed the cluster. ive recently changed my headunit could that maybe be a problem?
Nope, your right. I must have scrolled too fast, saw 20thanivser. and thought he started the thread..... MY mistake.
your up for a challenge if the cluster has not been out before in order to measure continuity up each individual flex print run becasue its really difficult to verify without the whole blasted thing taken apart.
might as well add a jumper wire to "W2" inside the physical speedo module and make it worth your while. that way you can go past 85 on english setting.
My break was right in the middle of that whole mess but i had to use a magnifying glass to see the breaks.
hmmm ill see what I can do, tommorow is a new day, haha
seems like its a fuse since the clock stopped working too
go to page 21 of the evtm,,,
shop manual is confussing me right now,,
verify ckts associated with the speedo are ok.
