Title: Sad junkyard Tbird story
Post by: kingcars on January 05, 2011, 07:13:01 PM
So I went to the local Pull-a-Part yesterday looking for a Tbird or Cougar with red interior that I could get some pieces from for the Turbo Coupe.  As my gf and I walk into the yard, on the first row of Fords, I spotted a 4 eye Tbird.  When I got closer, I was appalled at what I found...

Before tearing into it, I called up dad to see if he wanted it for a project car, at which point I inquired about purchasing the car.  Unfortunately, they are not able to sell whole cars.  Such a shame, because this was a beautiful 4 eye.  An 83 to be exact.  So then I took pictures to preserve her legacy, which will also live on in my Turbo Coupe.  Rest in peace.

What a shame , I would have drained my bank account gathering parts from that thing though .  It even has  a shiny clean ashtray in the console

wow that makes me so mad at the owner. It reminds me of the LS I found in my yard last year. It was perfect. I mean friggen perfect. And they wouldn't sell me the car. 2 mo's later it was crushed and gone.

S.O.B...that is a shame!!  WTF is wrong with people to send a nice car like that to the junkyard?  I guess it just goes to show that most people could care less about these Fox T-bird/Cougars.  To 99% of people they are just old 80's cars.

I found an 83 5.0 bird. Looked brand new, even had the hood emblem. Perfect leather seats. Body looked brand new. Went through the glove box and found a receipt saying it was serviced at 67k miles like 6 months before I saw it. I have no idea why it was junked. Maybe blown tranny?

If I make a return trip, I'll snag them for you.

This encounter has made me even happier to know that I've at least been able to keep 2 Tbirds from suffering such a fate, along with all the stuff that the rest of you guys own.  Let this be motivation for us all.  :)

By the time Fox T-birds or Cougars get into the yard by me they are beat to hell. I'm lucky I've never seen a Fox like that in the yard.

The one car I saw in the yard that ticked me off was during C4C two years ago. It was a loaded pearl white 97 4.6 T-bird Sport with 45,000 miles on it. It was a C4C trade in. The car was mint, mint, mint with leather. I would have loved to have it as a DD.

What a crime. Who ever dropped her off in the bone yard should be forced to drive a Yugo from now on.

Wow, that's crazy......how do cars like that end up in junkyards???  That's the 2nd clean TBird I saw in a NC junkyard. Is that yard by chance near Clayton?

Seriously, if you have the time, carefully pick as many good parts as you can and sell/store them.  I wish that car was closer....what a waste.

Makes me a little sad. I fight with my car all the time, the poor thing is falling apart, and someone junked that one. I could DD that car and mine should go to the junkyard, lol.

If you go back, get a picture of the VIN and PM me with it, I'll submit it to

http://www.tbirdregistry.com/

so it will be documented as -gone-

Yep last year I saw the same thing. 97 cougar Special Edition with 4.6L 6x,xxx miles, beautiful car. c4c'd.:beatyoass: that was such a stupid name for that program. It had nothing to do with how much of a "clunker" your car was, just the  gas mileage. I saw so many people get rid of perfectly nice cars just cause they didn't get awesome gas mileage, while people who actually had old worn out beat up 4 bangers couldn't get rid of they're py ass cars cause they got too good MPG's. What a friggen joke.

I am pretty sure NC laws are written in a way that the whole chassis can be used as parts if you buy the whole car as parts.

getting it inspected is the trick.

selling the whole car to you is not legal however, you could piece mill it by buying the motor/trans, doors, engine, fenders ect all broken out on separate reciepts.

Im pretty sure it can be done like that,, in the intrest of saving the car, see what you come up with.
The law here in West Virginia is the same, cant sell whole car but can piece part it out.  once you purchased enough, you can haul the chassis away.

most people here who pull a car from the jy end up getting a salvage title at dmv.

That is amazing. I have never seen anything like that in a yard. i dont know what it is, there just aren't any yards like that in Houston. You are HARD pressed to find anything <95 in a yard here.

The only thing i can figure is they needed quick cash, or the motor/trans blew and they didnt want it no more, but whatever the case, sad ending
