As the title states, I'm looking for a dash top overlay for my 1988 Thunderbird. Either a blue carpet style one, or preferably one of the overlays as seen on dashtops.com.
I have a perfect complete dash I removed from my parts car, but needing the car all the time as a DD, I don't have the time to swap or resources needed to complete the entire dash swap.
Maybe someone has either an overlay, a carpet one, or just wants to buy my complete dash. I will box it and ship it, for whatever it costs, no markup on shipping. I would likely trade the complete dash even for one of the overlays even swap. A carpet one, I would want a little money plus the carpet one, for the entire dash.
Let me know what you have, hopefully we can work out a deal somehow. I'm flexible, either post or pm me with what you have and what you want to do.
You can go to your loal Autozone and get a brand new carpet style cover. They are affordable and they usually get them within a week. To ship the dash is crazy money. The caps (plastic dash caps) are a little pricey as well. To swap the dash, all you need are a few basic tools and one afternoon. Not as bad as it sounds. It would actually take less time to install a replacement dash than a dashcap. The caps need to be trimmed to fit the dash (due to differences from car to car),then bonded for quite some time. If you were, oh, say a LOT closer,I'd help you swap the dashes out. Again,it's really not that big of a job. I did mine a couple of months ago since I had to do a ton of wiring. No big deal.
how much you want for the perfect dash? shipped to 21050 maryland? Pm me maybe we can work something out,
Hcor:
It's the complete thing. It'd like enough to buy he dash pan overlay. I've done a little looking on the forum but can't find much. If you'd like, I'll get an estimate on shipping in the next couple of days and we can go from there.
Vinnie: Is there a dash swapping procedure anywhere? I know doing the heater core required almost all of the removal of the dash, which I did once. Were all of the wiring and hvac connections hard to replace? Some of those would be different from my parts car dash, as it has the full digital HVAC unit. and the DD does not. I know the dashtop takes a while to set up, but if there are heavy objects on it holding it down overnight or something, I can be doing other things, you know? Tell me about your experience doing the swap.
The dash swap is pretty straight forward.....remove it and all that bolts to it....replace the dash and all that bolts to it. I mean,it's easy to psych yourself out and it does look intimidating, but it's really not a hard job. Just time consuming. If you have a day and a nice warm, well lit area, you're set. The HVAC system has a cable, couple of plus and some nuts that go to it. Really not a big deal either. The dash caps run about $150.00 and up. Not the cheapest pieces. It took me quite a while to get it trimmed just right. What worried me about the dash cap, was,if I trim too much here or there, there's no going back and fixing it. It was very time consuming to fit it...sand and test fit....trim and test fit....a hundred times.LOL. Tedious, but worth it. If I had the choice,I'd rather have a mint dash....which is why I swapped mine out.
holy , thanks for giving a heads up on dashtops.com.. the capri and tc#2 need 1 bad
You interested in a complete dash? lol

Yes you should let us know. Even if it isn't up to your standards, post pictures, your standards might be higher than some of others..
I will. I'll do it tomorrow. I got home from work late today, but tomorrow I'll be out of work around 1, should be home around 2, and i'll have time tomorrow. Fair?
I have a red one for sale if anyone is looking for one.
Sorry for the delay on shipping. Some of my relatives showed up early on friday, before I even got home from work. They are from "the other side of the family", the side that can't get thier hands dirty and used car parts "smell funny to them". Ranting aside, I will get a quote for you soon. They are gone, when I get home from work today, storm aside, I'll get an estimate. Thanks for being patient.
Did you get my pm hcor?
i still aint got the dash cap i ordered from my source, no emails or calls from the guy like he just took my money and ran or something.
Keep us posted. I know you don't want to reveal your source yet, but i'm assuming you called your credit card company, if all else fails you can opt to have your money replaced.
Still no dash cap, but i did get 20 of my 50 bucks back today but im not gonna rest until i get all my money back or the dash cap.
Local junkyard has a 88 cougar with a brown carpet dash overlay. It looks to be in perfect shape. If anyone needs one, let me know.
Chris
