Title: TC on TV Tonight
Post by: Romeo2k on December 05, 2010, 02:27:47 PM
I think someone posted a youtube to the preview or something awhile back~ But, Tonight they are Airing the "New" episode of Top Gear that features a "Turbo T-Bird".
The preview they keep showing on TV doesnt look too promising... The guy gets in the Silver TC, Hits the gas and nothing happens~Then they cut to him pushing it....
Anyway, Tonight at 10pm (Pacific) on the History Channel

Too bad it was in a 358cu.in. V-8 car that was a 4-speed & had the floor pan of a '65 Galaxy ...I still dig they gave props to it, though :headbang:

and technically the block specs of a 69' 351 haha. but the body panels, roof, hood trunk, had to be what was on the show room, same identical parts. what they dont tell you, Bill was chopping sections out of them, making them smaller. haha

I'm well aware it clearly wasn't a 2.3l doing that. I had an 87 Turbo Coupe automatic, bone stock, it was, well, faster than my 88 Thunderbird with a 3.8l. Faster than a stock 150hp 5.0, maybe in first gear. I'm just excited, the little kid in me in running around screaming, my car is on TV!, well sort of, lol.

Yeah, you can't neutral bomb a A4LD and expect it to ever work again. If the idiot would've got a 5 speed, things would've been a lot different.

I'm alittle bit past halfway through now. I think he would have been alot better off with a 5.0. That TC looks like its sick and ready to die.

It made me happy to see it on tv reguardless of their contest.
I dont get how he messed up the 180 though, I've pulled them off numurous times with my car. The ebrake doesnt lock while in gear on mine though, seems like he was reaching down for the lever...

They forgot the category for style points.
The Thunderbird looked better than any of the other cars including the Charger that was chasing them around.

No kidding! We bought an 87 TC that they started to use as a Fire Dept demo. It had the most perfect raven interior I have ever seen. Well, until the Jaws of Life ripped off the drivers door panel and corner of the perfect uncracked dash. Sigh.

Yeah, my car was an anomaly. I got it at a state auction, the only stock body panels were the quarters and every panel was a different color. It ran great though and I never had to do anything to it, so it was a perfect first car. Being a typical dumb teenager, I beat the hell out of it never realizing it's potential.

I used to do the same thing to mine. I got my tbird with 220K-ish on it when I was 16, and I used to neutral drop that shiznit all of the time.. I'm 99% sure it was the stock transmission, which it still has. I guess I was lucky my parents had taken such good care of it, but I obviously didn't appreciate that at the time. Ah, I was a dummy...

I think everyone beats on their first car, regardless of what it is. My T-Bird was my first car, and when it was a v6 I used to beat the bajeezis out of it. My foot was always to the floor, but an 88 v6 never gets out of its own way, so all I really did is waste a lot of gas and expedite my head gaskets blowing, althought I did win a race against my friends 5cyl volvo s90(or something like that). I never neutral dropped it, but don't feel bad, we all did it.

Yeah I've forgotten what you've done to that 3.8. Your cardomain isn't that descriptive as to what you've done to the engine.
I know my 3.8 MN-12 has a hard time getting out of it's own way ;)

Well, honestly, not that much. Which is why I can still say that, cause its not very custom. Yet....
But if you really want to know....
It does have a new reman'd block bored .030 over with all new internals.
Nothing internal has been upgraded though yet.
Outside everything is new or reconditioned, or gone. This includes all sensors, ignition system, fuel system, and the like. It does have a msd coil and dual pr0ng spark plugs.
All emissions and non essential vacuum related equipment has been removed, along with the entire AC system.
Also electric fan conversion, and exhaust work.
Other than that its pretty much stock but it will still 0-60 in the low 9 seconds. Which I know isn't terribly impressive but for what we're talking about...an 88 v6... is still pretty good.
Unfortunately I never got a chance to run it in the 1/4 but as soon as I get the 5 speed in and the track opens back up next year, I'm hoping to run some high 15's, maybe 16's.
This is of course, until this motor comes out, then the split port 4.2 / SC block goes, in and the twin turbos get thrown on. But, thats for much, much, much, much later.
If you guys click my project thread, in my sig, there is a lot more info in the first post on the car than on my cardomain.

high 16's at best with an auto.. a few years ago a buddy of mine had a 96 cougar with a 3.8 that i did a massive amount of work to in order to get it to run 15 flat and high 14's with 3.73's.. it all made a huge difference when we bolted an SC charger to it though.. ran low 13's without any other work

Me? I'm a florida outcast. I'm actually from GA:D I love when it gets cold. 45-60 is AWESOME!! And hell anything above 50 is t-shirt weather. Under ~45* the cold really starts to lose its appeal but hell I don't put a jacket on till its at least -35*. I do enjoy the long sleeves shirts though:D
