Maybe it just me, but I'm seeing fewer of these cars on the road and it seems like they've really disappeared over the last couple of years.
I regularly browse craigslist and it seems the selection is way down.
I went to my favorite Pick-n-Pull last week and I counted 12 MN12 cars and 0 Fox cars.
Anyone else seeing this?
I live down south and they seem to be rare here always.
I have seen (including JY cars) < 20 fox birds or cougars. Ever.
And it does seem like there's less. I do believe your right. I think its b/c JYs are so crush happy.
That's pretty much the norm for any 20+ year old car, they ain't making them any more you know... Most states offer collector/vintage/antique plates at 25 years, some earlier... A few states offer collector plates for limited editions such as the Ford GT, Marauder etc, regardless of year...
BTW I went down this same road back in '88-'89 when I restored my '69 Fairlane Cobra Jet, if I had not already saved the parts I needed, I'd have been SOL as there was practically nothing in the junk yards..
it's a shame, but they are becoming far and few between.. when i had my cougar and bird, parts were everywhere to be found in any junkyard in my area.. now there's only 1 yard that seems to have any, but they never have less than 5
20 here.. everything i own, except the sonoma, will be running classic tags next year, that way insurance is dirt cheap
only 2 i've seen here
They've been rare here for 10 years. Cash for clunkers didn't help either.
:beatyoass: gaaahhhrrrrrrr so many awesome cars gone to waste that way....
as far as antique/classic tags we have to wait 30 years in FL. another 8 to go....
Lots around here. On the road and in yards. For once in my life I guess im blessed.
Around here it seems they are driven until the weheels fall off, because the few driving around town look like , and the ones in the yards should just be smashed... Nothing useful in them anyways...
I'm still kicking myself for passing up an 88 tbird lx I saw in Lancasater for $700....
It would have made a great DD while I restored my first one :/
There's a massive LKQ yard here in Tampa, and the last time I went for Explorer parts, there were 2 fox birds. One 83-86 cougar and bird each. And these had pretty good interiors, etc...had good luck with the explorer though. :)
is your lkq a u-pull? the giant one in crystal river is not
I remember going to that one when I lived there.(Around Palm river road/78th st. area?? Used to be called Cophers U pull it?) That place is massive. There used to be quite a few fox cars there. When I had my first 20th, and wrecked it, I got all the parts from them. Some of the guys that work(ed) there were assholes though.
There seems to me to be a fair amount in my area still on the roads .
I've seen on the road:
2 red four eyed nice looking birds
1 blue four eyed cat....and it was totally wasted.
1 87/88 silver TC with cobra wheels
1 quilt colored patch job 87/88 TC pos
My black cat.
Thats it. Ever.:(
so friggen few, that I can remember all of them and where I saw them.
I see a few around here, driving, but they are beat to hell daily drivers. There are a few nice Marks (mine not included LOL ) around though. I hardly ever see them on Craigslist anymore, and I check every day.
I still see them around occasionally, but most of the ones still on the road are rough. 10 years ago when I was in High School there were several still around. And our junkyards are also getting pretty thin on fox bodies of any kind.
The white trash/meth head people are the death of them around here...
Missouri Sucks for trying to get historic plates.
To qualify for historic license plates, a vehicle (passenger vehicle, truck, or motorcycle) must be 25 years old or older, owned solely as a collector’s item, and used for exhibition and educational purposes.
Vehicles displaying historic or antique license plates may be driven:
1.To and from exhibitions and educational events without any mileage limitation;
2.To repair facilities within a 100 mile limit; and
3.Up to 1,000 miles per year for personal use.
its worse here. there is no time limit restriction to make a car a classic. You still have to pass saftey and emissions every year. All it is is a tax decrease. The cougar after 25 years will be considered discontinued, now that mercury is no longer around, and the bird will be after 30 years, because they will have not made the model anymore, and the bird will be 30 years old.
I almost forgot, also 5,000 miles a year total.
The limitations are partly what makes insurance for collector vehicles cheaper, no state is going to say OK drive it wherever you want with no limitation on mileage... Virginia requires the vehicle look stock, supposedly highly modified, race cars, etc aren't eligible(tho some are plated as antiques[the only plate we can get])
