Title: Che feedback
Post by: 1986Élan on December 03, 2010, 02:51:04 PM
HI guys
well as christmas is getting close my girlfriend asked me what i want (how sweet of her) and i think i will have to go with a set of upper/lower control arms from che
i have dug up the ol thread in the sticky section and its been more or so 5 years that many members here got their set

so im asking for some feedback
what do you guys think about them
still like em after 5 years
any regrets?

i was thinking of going with adjustable lowers
but i was wondering if adjustable uppers are a must or whats their advantages over regular uppers
also, what is the difference between the poly bushing uppers and the rod ones

thank alot to everyone!

I have adjustable uppers and lowers.  Keep in mind the adjustable lowers will raise your ride height even when set to the lowest position setting.  I really like mine, they make the ride more firm, handling is better, and losing traction is not an issue at all for me now (of course I'm not throwing down that much HP anyway).  They do have more 'pops' and other noises than the stock control arms but that comes with the territory.

I got the adjustable uppers to be able change my pinion angle (mine was off due to being lowered so much).  Unless you plan on needing to do that, I don't really see the reason to buy them.

I have had mine on for probably 5-6 years and they still look very good.  The powdercoat holds up great and I think the decals are even still on them.  One thing I would highly recommend for the adjustable lowers would be to lube the threads occasionally on the adjustable part.  I never had and this summer when I attempted to adjust my ride height a little I found that things had rusted up some.

One other thing, if you think you will get them by christmas you're thinking rather optimistically.  If I remember correctly, it took them awhile to get mine sent out to me.  It is worth the wait though, they are a good upgrade.

50 thanx for the reply

i was thinking of getting the adjustable lowers just in case
like if using the bullit springs or any other mustang spring that would make the rear sag
did you already take your steeda springs off?
the ride heigh of your car looks great even tho you said the adj lowers will raise the rear even set to the lowest
by the way ho much does it raises the rear when set to the lowest position?

Mine are holding up, I hardly put many miles on them though.

I've got a set, best thing you can for the rear suspension, IMO.

I meant that they help with traction...not that you lose it.

Yes the reason I got the adjustables was because it sagged with the steeda springs.

I think it raises the car like 1/2" or something at the lowest position???

I have the upper and lowers adjustables along with mach springs and strange 10way adjustables the lowers are cranked up almost as far as they will go and I am hitting the fender wells with my tires when I go threw a dip. I really do like both the uppers and lowers I just need to either run a smaller rear tire or have my fender lips rolled.

I'm running 245/50/17 with no rubbing at all. I don't have a lot of adjustment left either.

What setting do you have the shocks set at?  If I did the math correctly, that works out to a 26 1/4" tall tire.

I've got 275-40-17's on the vert....I had rubbing in the back....I put air shocks in and raised the back up. it only rubbed when I hit potholes.. Unfortunately, most of NY is pothole... The car has a Lincoln rearend in it, and pushes the wheels out a bit further then they should. The very outer edge of my tires catch the wheel well. If the rear was from a Cougar or Bird it probably wouldn't rub...

after the air shocks

this is how it sat before.

I'm running the CHE non-adjustables with Moog 8599 springs and Bilstein shocks for a fox Mustang with the shock mount relocation brackets from Chuck.  My tires in back are 255/60-15's --- a 27" tall tire.  I've yet to come close to rubbing.....

BTW Jerry that pic you posted with the reborn Cougar in the background is pretty much where mine is at right now.

Same size rear tires as you Paul....I haven't driven the car, but just by looking at the tires, and wheelwell, the tire is well inside of the lip, and I'm pretty sure it's not going to even come close to rubbing.. I believe I used stock springs in the rear, and the non adjustable CHEs. I'll use adjustable shocks to fix the height problem I'm experiencing in the back.

I'm using Sn-95 Mustang springs (stock GT springs). I still have plenty of room inboard and outboard of the tires (as I said, that's with 275's),but I did have to toss the ol' quad shocks into the "for sale" side of the garage. Long gone now.

Humm now Im wondering if my tire offset isnt wrong because looking at things I think that if there were no tire bulge at all I would only clear the wheels by about 1/4 inch at the fender lip. Im going to measure backspacing tommorow.

Keep in mind I have no A/C and aluminum heads..... The front end on my car is about 150 pounds lighter than when it left the factory.  With the stock springs it sat much higher than it does now and as shown in the pic.  The current springs up front are Moog part #8598.  Before I redid the suspension it was starting to get the old gasser look as the rears were starting to sag.

For me, that's actually good to hear.. I don't have anything but a motor, and aod installed. How much extra do you thing everything else weighs? driveshaft, exhaust, ,A/C, hood, rad, headers, battery, upper intake, TB, etc....

The A/C components weigh in between 50 and 55 pounds in total.  My cylinder heads took another 50 pounds or so off the front as well. Powermaster hi-torque mini-starter weighs 12 pounds as opposed to the stocker which weighs 30 (yes 30 pounds).  FWIW -- a smog pump and bracket weigh a little over 20 pounds as well....

Aftermarket headers are a huge weight saving over the factory log manifolds that these cars came with.

A full size battery? 40 pounds or so by my estimate.

Let's hope I cram  a ton of weight back in it...lol
I ordered my headers today... then I can put everything back in after they get bolted on...

Jerry, the Sport sat up even after I swapped the springs and everything else until I drove it a little. Then it "settled down" so to speak.
