Hey all,
My booster is going bad, and its time to upgrade with the rest of my setup:
- Turbo Coupe rear discs
- Mark VII front calipers and 11" rotors
- Continental/SVO big bore master cylinder
I have looked around (even found a post I did years ago) about this subject, but cannot get a definitive yes or no as to what is better: the '93 Cobra or the Mustang/SVO unit. No way am I getting another Tbird/Cougar unit.
(FYI: I am going off the part numbers from Rock Auto for all models in order to determine uniqueness.)
Use the 93 Cobra booster and MC. The booster should bolt right up to the existing holes in the firewall and the MC has the same threads as your stock MC so you will not have to change the ends on the brake lines and do double flares. You will however need a 3 to 2 port conversion kit as your stock MC is of a 3 port design and the newer Cobra design is a 2 port design. Maximum Motorsports sells them and I believe if you hunt around on the net you can find the part numbers of the fittings to make one yourself but this is all depending on the local parts stores having these fittings and you will need to make brake lines where the MM kit comes with everything ready to go. You will also need to gut the proportioning valve side of the stock PV/SV unit which is the brass block below the stock MC. This will require you to install an aftermarket proportioning valve so you can adjust the rear bias on the brakes.
I just realized you already have the SVO MC so disregard that in my comment above. Get the 93 Cobra booster. They are more expensive than the SN95 boosters but they fit much better.

Perfect. Cobra booster, here I come!
Good suggestion Aerocoupe. I believe it is the easiest option for you pro-five-oh.
BTW, I have a 93 Cobra master cylinder NEW from Late Model Restoration if you are interested. I'm not going to use it myself.

Okay, now I see where you were coming from. That is good info for the guys here as there is some really good tech. Just for future reference here is where I pull alot of brake info from as this was compiled by a lot of trial an error and guys that have been there and done that.
