I do not usually brag about street racing, but I live out in the middle of no where and this was done on a deserted road.
The family had a little Thanksgiving get together yesterday and I decided to drive the T-bird one last time before the salt hits the roads soon. My brother-in-law just bought a 2011 Chevy 2500HD regular cab with the Duramax diesel and Allison transmission. IIRC, these are rated at 360-ish HP and an amazing 750-ish lbs-ft of torque.
We left at the same time and I was crusing at maybe 45-50 mph when I look in my side view mirror to see my bro-in law at my quarter panel attempting to pass me! He already had a 1/4 car jump on me so I floored it. He ended up getting about a car length in front of me at about 80 mph before (to my amazment) I started reeling him in. We ran out of road before I could get around him, but I think with another few hundred feet I would have passed him or at least caught him. My guess is that his truck is speed limited a 99 mph (or at least my 1/2 ton Chevy was before I put a programmer on it).
I would like to go from a dig and see what happens. With 750 ft-lbs he might destroy me, but I am sure a 3/4 ton truck is not light either. lol. It was fun to give a $40,000 truck a run for its money with a 23 yr old car.
If he could get traction, he'd probably eat you alive...but for sure he'll disappear in a cloud of blue smoke while you get some ground, but he'll move once he hooks.
I know of a guy in the next town, has a fairly modded cummins Dodge, Banks, propane injection, etc...regularly beats LS1 Trans Ams, Camaros, newer Stangs, and such.
I'll ask around, see if he's had it dynoed...I'm sure it has a bit more than 750 lb.ft lol
His is also a dually, thinking that little more rubber on the road helps his grab...air down the hides too.
If I had the money, there'd be a diesel truck in my driveway...titled in my name lol.
I'd love a diesel too but they are just too high dollar for me. I do a fair amount of towing but its all smaller stuff (lawn mowers, compact tractors, etc) so I couldn't justify spending $40000+ when I could get a 1/2 ton for almost half that. I'm pretty sure my bro-in-law's truck would smoke me from a dig, though. I think his is set up w/4.10 gears as well so the only chance in hell I would have would be on the top end.
When he 1st passed me, his truck was hauling ass waaaaay more than any 3/4 ton truck should have the capability of. They are fast even stock!
40 grand holy christ. I cant even justify the 8000 I spent on my frontier and I looooooved that truck...
shiznit man, price a new Yukon Denali...ughhh
