I was dropping my son off at church a few minutes ago,and was enjoying the night drive back home (I rarely have the Sport out at night),and was having a little fun getting a little rubber in first, then second, then third.....and it hit me.....As fun as the Sport has been, and as many rubber stripes it's left behind, I have never had the gas pedal "to the floor" since I installed the new engine. Not once. I can get the Sport side ways, I drifted around a corner the other day, showed the tail lights to a few Stangs, yet never completely floored it. I may have to fix that situation one day. Just sharing my little bit of self discovery.
Well, it's time to put the metal to the pedal, and the thing to the floor..... or something like that...lol
You big ole wussy. lol. ;)
Thanks Sally......I mean Jerry.LOL.LOL.
I'm never scared to do it, it's just that the car performs really well, and I've been more than impressed with it as I've been driving it. I may need to find some slicks and see what she can really do.
i've put the pedal through the floor board a few times kicked it side ways more then once lol
That's the whole thing,I can get the Sport to do most anything without flooring it all the way. I guess that's a good thing.
Same here, i can drive like a normal person cept when im in the bird my foot gains 10 pounds lol
What are the stats on your Bird?
just a stock HO block with 65mm TB,headers and true dual 2 1/2 exhaust with flow 40's and a 345 gear and locker is bout it.
I floor every car I own, half the time on the test drive! I need to know what it can do! Or what it can't do, lol.
was selling a truck one time, big dude come out and drove it. Floored it and snapped the throttle cable and then left it on the side of the road with me in it lol, talk about bein hot i was ready to kill lol.
Only one vehicle I never gave full throttle...that was a friend's 400x after he'd put it back together after bore and stroking it out to about 440. When it pulled the front tires at 50 mph with his 300 pound ass, I knew it was a no-no for me to open it all the way. Talking about the honda 4 wheeler here...he went hog wild with the engine on it several times.
Everything else, yes, wide open. Some have had permanent dents under the gas pedal too.
You gotta drive it like you stole it (and its on fire) every once in a while....
I don't have the nerve in me to drive my cars like a rental :(
Jesus. Some of you guys have mad restraint. 7000RPM at least every other time i take it out.
^lol
I "try" everything out atleast once on the highway. Even my van I use for work lol.
The only thing I waited on was my new TC. I got it on a sunday and had work all week so I didnt get to drive it much at all. In fact I just drove it for the 5th or 6th time tonight. About the 3rd time I drove it I stopped on a country road and nailed it, pretty quick for a half a motor. lol This is when I found out it had a boost controller that I hadn't seen before and it was maxed out to 20psi. Overboost light came on and the buzzer scared the poop out of me. I was surprised at how fast it was for a big 4cyl car. I have since detuned it to 14psi for now.
Now driving the mustang....thats a whole different story...lol
im gonna have to get me a tc soon, love my 5.0 but i hear good things about the tc's.
Great..hope this doesn't turn into a g contest between the V8 and the 2.3t crowds...
Someday, I'll have another TC, one that isn't hacked up, junked out, no title, good for parts piece of shiznit like the one I bought in 2006.
Then I'll drive it till the half motor pukes it's guts and throw a 390 under the hood, lol
In order to drive the Sport and give it all their is,I don't have enough tire under the back end. As it is,even with the 275 40 17's,they just spin. I need something with some real grip. I'm hoping to get a couple of extra wheels soon to mount some drag radials on.
Head to a parking lot with ice on it, and give her a whirl!
I put my foot to the floor in my Meteor last Spring, and my foot went through it. Let's just say rust is not my friend.
I don't need ice.
You should dyno it, Vinnie.
nah....I'll just wait for the results of this:
:poke:
We had a dyno day last year, and we will early 2011. I'll be posting the results. I'm going to be going through the car as well as I can, swapping lers (because I hate my flowmasters......I want a new set of Warlocks)),and doing a nice tune, check the timing, clean and re-oil the K&N,and make sure everything is working as it should.I have a good outlook for the Sport. I hope for 300hp. If it's less, that's fine. I'll do all I can with what I have under the hood.
What did it dyno last time? I was thinking 300 whp is a bit optimistic but I'm not fresh on the pushrod stuff anymore.
With the '86 engine, ported E-7 heads and an E303, the numbers were somewhere around 250hp and 300 torque. I now have the Mountaineer engine,Stage 1 cam, nicely ported and worked GT40-P heads, and electric fan. I'm hoping for a nice difference. Now,what I want and what I get are possibly two different hings.Either way,I'll be fine with it.
Yep, numbers don't really matter as long as it makes you smile while driving it and everything under the hood is in harmony. The dyno is nothing more than a tool.
^ This. So few people understand it when I tell them I loved my Thunderbird more than my WS6 when I had both of those cars. I have more fun driving my Thunderbird, I can't really explain just why - it just feels better and is more enjoyable even if its nowhere near as fast as a WS6 with bolt-on mods. Don't see the WS6 still in my driveway, do we? :giggle:
I love the Sport...I mean, really, I had it towed to my house on a flatbed from a salvage yard so i could start from scratch when I could've bought a running Bird. This one was calling me.
Well Vin...if you could always save for a snail, lol
If what it has now puts a grin on your mug, well hell, you'd probably look like pac man with some air pressure going through the tb, lol
I had thought about it,but decided I'm keeping it as it is. Now,a supercharger may be in the works next year (late in the year). I have to really start saving though. I want to complete a few more things for the Sport first, then more than likely,a supercharger. For now,I am happy, and, like two days ago, some kid (early 20's I'd guessed) pulled along side me in a '98ish blue Mustang GT convertible. Of course I noticed it,it's a Stang. He proceeded to do the usual begging for attention (revving the engine, glancing back and forth at the Sport),and I thought since I saw his car,he'd like to see the tail light of the Sport (they are cool),so when the light turned green, there's a long stretch of road, but it really didn't take much of it before I was giving him a nice view. No more revving and glancing by the next stop from him. Funny stuff to me.
funny stuff lol only ones i've had wanting to race me was these youngs punks in those krackerjack toys lol
I gotta say, I guess its cause I've never driven a car with more than about 170 hp my foot is almost always on the floor.
I learned my lesson a long time ago about obeying speed limits, but man I sure do get there quick:giggle:
The Sport has been great....Running very strong and peppy. A brand new a/c compressor is on the way,the Gt40 intake is being prepped by me (paint and polish),and I think she knows it. I can feel the excitement in her exhaust note.LOL. Christmas for the Sport is always a happy occasion for her (The cold air helps,too)..
Hey Vinnie, Do you have any video of it with the new motor?
Pics, yes. Video,no. I'll see if I can get my son to take a short video of it tomorrow. I have no clue how,and I don't even know if my camera does that. He'll know. I'll try to get a small clip and a sound bite of the Sport purring.LOL.
Sweet.
what blower you looking at and what configuration?
are you still a stock rear gear?
