Title: bummed about my windshield cracking... again!
Post by: blain_gatterdam on November 24, 2010, 02:23:56 AM
When I first started working on the car, it appeared from the lower passenger corner. I drove it 2 years while it slowly made its way across. I finally paid safelite $150 to replace it, they discovered the crack started due to rust pushing it. Well they gave it a lifetime warranty on everything BUT that corner. They just sanded the rust and primered it. It is cracking at the same spot, so now I guess when paint finally happens, Ill be taking out the windshield to repair the rust correctly. Then maybe my next $150 glass will last longer than a year.

any tips or is this just about all I can do?

Fix the rust correctly and call it a day. It's a pin,but one of those jobs that needs to get done before it gets worse and costs you more money later.........again.

I hear you on that. I'm thinking about doing this area (and other rust pr0ne areas) with por-15 before painting.

Is there any method to removing the cowl plate at the bottom? safelit pried mine up and left a small bend in it....
