I got a 3.8L that im going to be putting some mods on and was wondering how much can the AOD trany handle. And what can I do to it to "Beef it up" without totally rebuilding.
The car only has 35,000 mi. on it.
The stock AOD will handle any mods you can do to a CFI 3.8 V6.
If you're doing something like dropping in a 5.0 HO then you'll need to rebuild the AOD to take the abuse.
Im putting a 4barrel carb, stage 2+ heads, cam, and already have roler rockers. Basically redoing the whole top end. Think it will be fine?
with those mods, it'll be pushing a little more than a 5.0.. throw in a shift kit and call it done.. it's not going to be that powerful
Sounds like a fun V-6 build you have in progress. I'm curious about it since I did a beefed up V6 a few years ago in mine.
Questions:
1. Where are you getting the heads and cam from? I'm using a Comp Cam and I had the heads done with a simple 3 angle valve job.
2. Which roller rockers are you using?
3. What are you doing with the pipe coming off of the EGR valve (I think that's what it is...I'm at the computer and not the car) that goes into the cat. converter?

I'm planing on getting the other stuff from Tom Morana, Like the heads, cam, and other stuff.
About the EGR valve I'm just gong to get rid of it cause those things are a joke I'm my opinion.

Your AOd should be fine with what you'll be throwing at it from a v6. Like thunderjet said, throw a shift kit in it and call it done.
Chris the pipe your thinking of goes to the smog pump.
If you're going to ditch that pipe when you redo your exhaust then you might as well ditch the smog pump too. It does you absolutely no good otherwise.
Is there anything that you have to do when you take off the smog pump. Aside from getting a shorter belt?
You have to Crack open at least 1 window at all times!
