How hard/ ugly is it to fit a keyless pad to a door which did not have the hole?
The new door would have power locks (edge900rr turbocoupe door) and my car is already set up with a working keyless keypad system.
If I remember correctly, it was just an easy rectangular hole. Just use your tool of choice (fine blade jigsaw, dremmel, etc) and cut it out.
oh wow, and here I've been turning down decent doors because of this haha
Make a template from an original door with the hole cut in it if you can, then, put masking tape over the area to be cut, mark the area to be cut,and use a Dremmel with a cutoff wheel to make the hole.I like the Dremmel because it's easier for me to control.I did the cornering lights in my front fenders this way.The tape protects the surrounding area.
I mean, if you think about it, Ford probably wouldn't make a special door or anything for the handfull of them that got the keyless pad. They'd just chop a hole ;)
I have only had one cougar with the keyless option, an 87 20th anniversary. I parted it out years ago, but I believe it was just a rectangular hole, and the keypad had a clip or two holding it in.
I would entertain the thought of getting a newer keypad with a smoother profile that could fit in the well just under the door handle.
Then it won't look all 80's high tech.
