I'm getting ready to put all new exhaust on my car from the headers back. I'm not quit sure how I want the duels run out the back. I would appreciate if you guys could post pics of your exhaust tips, preferably shots from underneath the car.
Here's mine, sorry it isn't from below. They come straight back, over the axle, and under the bumper, lers before the axle.
P.S. Trailer hitch is long gone, pipes are 2.25" each. Hope that helps.
i don't have any pics, but when i did the exhaust on my bird and cougar, i angled them out at the corners of the bumper.. in my opinion, it looked better than the typical straight out the back
Actually,by chance, the Sport has THE coolest tips.........................
Alright...............
Here they are after I JUST got them....

No copying the look,please.
FINALLY.. i've never seen a pic of it until now lol i like how you cut out the bumper instead of having them hang underneath
I had to cut the bumper, bumper support, and cover. I also had to modify the pipes to be raised a few inches to accommodate the move. It started with my last Bird. My driveway has a raise to it when you pull in before it levels out,and I used to drag the pipes,so,the tips were done more as a necessity than for the look. On the Sport,it was done for both from the start. I drew a LOT of ideas out on paper, figured out which look I wanted, then spent a LOT of time looking for just the right tips. These are chrome plated, double walled stainless tips with an angle cut.Sweeeeet.
they look better than anything i've ever seen on a fox, that's for sure.. gives me an idea for the next bird i dig up.. no worries, your setup is safe
I started with angle cut, rolled edged tips on the last Bird, then on the Sport, she started with the angle cut round tips, then went to Rectangular angle cut Australian Ford falcon tips. I ALWAYS use either rolled edges or double walled tips. I alsways thought the single wall tips look as though they were never finished.Just cut, chromed and sold.I like them "finished".
Not long after I got the Sport. These are the Australian tips. I loved them in the box,but never really got used to them on the Sport. They never looked right to me. This is not long after I got the Sport running....she was a really homely looking girl. Glad she grew out of it.LOL....

The other Bird back in 2006. You can see the round angle cut tips. I like those. The car,she was a b#@%h. ALWAYS giving me some sort of issue,no matter how good I treated that car,it would dump on me. Great engine, but the car was possessed. Glad it's gone.......
i had these on both of mine, angled out of the corners of the bumpers.. i liked the look of them black against the black bumper, as i'm not really a chrome fan.. but my idea is basically a mix between mine and yours.. cut the corners and raise the tips into the cutouts

Time to get cutting.............
need a bird first.. my capri's exhaust is staying hidden under the car lol
Is that you in the picture?
vinnie's face, revealed! lol
Here's a pic om mine,I wanted to raise mine in to the bumper, but my stinger tailpipes won't let be raise it any higher on the right side.
Kitz, what's stopping the pipe from going up on the right? I had to bend up the corner of my gas tank, but it all fit. My tails are mandrel bent 2 1/2 inch Stang pipes.
yeah, that's me needing a shave and a hair cut....not a great pic,but the wife loves me anyway.
I only have about 1/4" clearance to the frame on the hump over the axle. I can probably do it I just haven't had the time to really mess with it this year, since I spent more time painting it twice.
Yeah, with the new paint, leave it alone. Don't wanna mes up a good thing. I'm probably having the Sport repainted in a year. Same color, but i have some subtle body changes I'm going to do.
I have been planning on pretty much exactly what you did with those rectangle tips on my cougar forever now. thanks for showing them off vinnie. Now I know for sure that I want them.:D
I ordered them from Australia years ago.Had them for a long time before I ever installed them. The ones I have now probably weigh 5 pounds a piece.Heavy, but awesome.
yeah I considered double barrel tips as a second choice but I like the rectangles better. I think they flow better with you're, the Vinnie,'s most infamous, "natural lines of the car" much better.:shakeass:
I can't "most infamous" by any means. It's just built to my own personal taste. Plus, the round tips fit the rear of the car's look and the round lights when they're lit up. Crazy thinking, but there's a method to my madness.
amazing ! I have a madness to my method:hick:
No tips on the 83 just 3" mandrel bent LX Mustang style pipes. A buddy's family owned an exhaust shop for years and he extended the Mustang pipes so they went to the back of the car. I think it was about 8" or so. I have a shot of them when they were painted with hi-temp silver from the side but not the back. The only picture I have access to right now is this one from about ten years ago. I was on my way to the 1999 World Ford Challenge from Ennis, TX when my buddy took that picture.

They are now HPC coated but not on the car as of yet...still waiting on the headers to get built. I do like how Vinnie's look but I have a hard time cutting on my car, my dad bought it new so its very near and dear to my heart. I have done a couple of things I wish I would not have done and those are getting corrected on this rebuild.
Darren
Just turndowns to mimic the factory look. 2 1/4"
Nothing wrong with the factory look at all.Nice.
I want chrome turndowns on mine when I get the whole thing going.
Here is the tips I just put on my car. It has mustang tail pipes and I welded these tips on to make up the difference. They are a little bigger than I wanted but for free I couldn't pass them up.

I always liked the twin single tip on the earlier cars.

When it was time to redo the exhaust, I couldn't find anything I was happy with in the proper sizing that didn't look dumpster, so I settled on the single 3.5" polished I have now.

Here are mine. I have a Pypes Violator Fox mustang catback kit and lengthened the tailpipes by slipping stainless 3" tips over the pypes tailpipes. I always liked the original turndowns (I was real close to putting turn downs back on it) so I had the exhaust shop guy angle these down to kinda give it a "downswept" look and keep hot exhaust from messing up the paint on my bumper.

that looks real good
and for that matter so does the rest of the car. Nice. Very nice.
I currently have open headers, and before that I had a glasspack dump right before the axle, but just for kicks, here's what it looked like when I first got the car. Just a 3" tip on the stock tail.
these are the only two pics I have of it then.
thats my wife back there making it look like shes having the most boring day ever

Nice looking Cougar. Bored looking wife. lol.
i would drool, but i know it has a 3.8 under the hood :raspberry lol
Thanks!!! looks better now... have you seen my thread:D
As for the 3.8 comment.....:beatyoass:
yeah, i've seen the thread.. i've got your :beatyoass: right here lol :flame:
there was that horrible dent that didn't exist then....*sob*
of course now there's that huge dent that didn't exist back then.... *sob*
I think we've gone to far off topic.....
it'll buff out.. lmao
back on topic.. :deal:
I try to keep everything in proportion. Meaning, I want everything to fit like it belongs. Not to look like an after thought. I may not always succeed, but I put a a lot of thought into any parts I add on. It has to look "right". Blend in,as not to be a distraction from the rest of the car.
i agree for the most part
2.5" exhaust with 2.5" rolled chrome tips.

Sorry yall, Vinnie wins. Hands down. Cant beat having the exhaust molded into the bumper. These bumpers were just not meant to have exhausts protruding underneath.
very true
For now! I might just bring mine out below my tailights.
How about through the heater vent under the dash for the winter season?
that'll taste good
I was thinking right through the middle of the bumper at one time... then I realized that was a :pbb: situation
I have been bouncing around the internet and I have noticed that it is against some rule I never heard about to even have tailpipes on a Mustang , let alone tips :mullet:
I'm glad I own a Bird at this point in my life:burnout:
If I may:;)
