Title: Looking for full electronic cluster
Post by: BadTriumph on November 17, 2010, 11:35:28 PM
This may be a wild goose chase, but I'm looking for the full electronic cluster for my Cougar. Anybody have any leads on one?

Just to be clear, this one:

If they have one in a car, try and grab as much of the wire that plugs in to the back as you can. I'm going to need to make up new connections since mine has the standard cluster. Let me know if you find one. Thanks!

I have one from my parts car too, the harness is still there, I could cut it out if needed.

Let me make sure hypostang hasn't already pulled one.... If he hasn't, I'm interested. Is it in good shape? Thanks!

Yeah it seemed fine when I removed it. How much of the wires do you need?

As much as you can spare.... Is it from a V-8?

You need the sensors and fuel sending unit as well.

Hey Jamie, if you get a full digital instrument panel it wont matter that your tripminder doesn't work correctly because it does the same things! :)

Hmmm.... Hadn't thought of all that. I guess I need to look into this a little more and get a comprehensive list together.

That's kind of what I thinking....

Um, why does he need the senders? The post doesn't specify what he's doing, so I'm curious.

Vinnie's correct.... I wasn't very clear in my first post, but I am looking to swap clusters. I'm re-thinking at this point though... I was hoping all I had to do was re-pin the harness. Guess that's not the case :(

I WISH my car had full digital. I'm not swapping my buttstuffog cluster, although,if I had the courage,I would. Although I have the 140mph speedo,I don't care for the buttstuffog gauges.

I say, start collecting the parts you need. Eventually, you'll have all you need and you can do the swap. It just takes a little time. Again,I wish mine had that cluster.

If my car still had the V8 in it I would have swapped to a full digital cluster.  I think they look awesome.  I agree with Vinnie.  Collect the parts and take your time and you'll get it right.

You really don't care for the buttstuffog? I have the base digital cluster in one car and the buttstuffog in the other. The plan is to take all the good parts off of both and make one car. So right now, I have my choice bewtween the two. I was leaning toward the full digital for the 199mph speedo (which mine already has/should be a direct swap) and the trip computer feature since my tripminder doesn't want to register full fuel flow. I believe it also has distance to empty which the trip minder doesn't have. I miss that from my Mark VII. The build is about a year out anyway, so I don't mind collecting parts.... Was the full digi cluster only available on V-8's? I don't want to have to try to figure out rewiring a solid state tach....

I have a full digital in mine and given the choice in order of preference I would choose buttstuffog , full digital , base cluster . I might swap a base for an buttstuffog but wouldn't swap full digital to buttstuffog  JMHO :)

No,I don't like my buttstuffog cluster.I have it,so I use it.If I had the electrical know how,I'd do the swap for some full digi gauges. I HATE doing electrical work though,so,that's a change that won't happen.
