So sorry this happened. :(  Glad you are OK and the other driver I assume is OK.

The damage looks fixable.  But what are your thoughts on what to do?

As long as the frame is ok it should be fixable.....but it'll cost a bit of money.

Looks like it would require a front clip, from the strut towers forward. Both front fenders, hood, radiator, and it leaking power steering fluid. Ironically it happened right out front of the school, where I'm taking autobody repair.:hick:

That sucks!  I think of the possibility of this happening darn near every time I drive my T-bird.  If my car were ever totaled it would be like a member of the family passing away.  Hopefully you can salvage it...

how did it happen exactly?

Well, I was following my buddy to school. We just had taken off from a stoplight when some kid in a Chrysler 300 goes blowing by us on the side of the road. He got between us, and then passed my buddy and the car in front of him. We were slowing down to turn into the school, when the 300 just jamms his brakes on and turns in, causing the guy behind him to stop short. My buddy locked his brakes on his Suburban and veere to the right, causing me to jam on my brakes. I had to swerve to the left slightly to miss him, and still sliding, seen the other car in the middle of the road. Had about a split second to either slam the car in front, hit my buddy or swerve to the left to miss them both. Unfortunately there was a Cobalt coming in the other lane, and through a series of swerving left and right we met in the middle. One bright spot was the Cobalt was dead, but I drove the Tbird into the Autoshop at school under it's own power.

Good to see you posting about it, although the subject itself hurts to read...
With that said...maybe it'll turn into a labor of love.
I think I might have a few little pieces that I don't/won't need...if so, I'll donate 'em for shipping if you decide to rebuild.:welder:

Hit the Cobalt right on the drivers side front wheel, as we both tried to turn away. The impact drove the Cobalt back and sideways.

I doubt you bent the frame. Do both your doors open up fine after taking off the fenders? At least your bumper bracket didn't just break off at the weld. It looks similar to what I did, just on the other side of the car. The only thing that isn't sitting right on my car is the bottom of the radiator support. Everything else was just pull off and put back on. After I re-welded the bumper bracket and bent it back in place, and pulled the radiator support bottom out alittle bit (I actually pulled it alittle bit too far, and now I can't bend it back, Just wanted the car on the road.) and swapped the cougar front end on, and good as new. I still have alittle bit of gap between the hood and the header panel, but that was because the cougar front end I swapped on. The guy who had it before me wrecked it and fiberglass the front end to the fenders, so I only had four good bolt holes, and they didn't quite line up from how he glued it back together. I did not bend up top where the fender bolts to either though.

Well, the deeper in I get, the worse it looks for keeping this car. I could get a killer deal on most of the parts I would need to fix it, (Thanks hcor!!), but with no time and being so close to the holidays, not to mention the rust, I'll probaly end up stripping and sping her. I've known this car for 22 yrs., but with the excessive rust, I don't know if I want to put too much money into it. I will use alot of the parts on the other Sport I have, and sell some here. On a bright note, it will give me a chance to put new seals and gaskets, and a few other goodies on the 5.0, while I keep the other Sport together, then just swap motors when the time comes. I have been thinking about keeping some part of the body, and hanging on the wall when we redo our "racing" room, (any ideas, throw them out there!!) just as a small memorial to a great car. Well anyway enough rambling, I'll post up an ad when I get the car apart with available parts. Thanks to all for your kind words and support.:D

Only you can make the decision on what you need to do. If it can live in  another car, Then that's the way it got to be.
