Just got the newest issue today, And there is a write up on "Classics of Tomorrow".
83-97 T-Birds are mentioned as "The Luxury Mustang" with Cougars getting a mention.
They mostly talk up MN12's (Handling, Supercharged).
But, Theres a couple pics of foxes.
Finally a little recognition.
That's cool!!
It happens from time to time. Last year the feature article in a certain Hemmings issue was "15 best Fords of all time" and one of them was "83-86 Thunderbirds" and they mention the typical things we hold dear - "Blew the competition out of the water by making everything else on the road look 10 years old" "Handled well and were fun to drive, with a turbocharged variant available".
Why does everyone talk up the MN-12s? They are hard to modify and heavy. Foxes are so much easier to modify and make fast, plus they look better ;).
I think the Foxes are collectable today....I have to admit my MN-12 is getting a makeover. It is in much better overall condition than the 86 Bird. I don't like the extra 400 lbs or the extra 5" in width but everything works. Not so for my poor 86.
Ive tried to like the MN12's........ I just cant, Ive tried and tried. I just cant see myself in one.
Me neither. No slam on 'em, it's all what you like.
X2 to the last two posts.
i wouldnt mind having an mn12 cougar...not much on the mn12 birds though...
I had a 95 T-Bird LX a few years ago and I liked it real well, other than the way the tranny every once in a while would shutter. It felt like you hit the rumble strips on the side of the road.
Usually switching to Mercon V helps the Torque converter shudder in the 4r70w's. Switching before you get the shudder makes the tranny last a whole lot longer.
When I had my '94 it was a decent car for a DD. It made decent power and had good gas mileage. The 4.6 was reliable as hell, but not very mod friendly, as mentioned before. And the exterior styling was just kinda bland. You get used to it after a while and it kinda grows on you. But fox's are still look so much better.
the SC's are going to be the biggest collector car out of all the 83-97's, followed by the TC of course.. then the 5.0's and at the bottom will be the 3.8 cars, unless wearing some kind of 'special' badge like limited or anny.. but by far, that SC's will be at the top.. they're already expensive, in almost any condition (except poor, they're all over craigslist for 500-800)
When I had my '86 Cougar, I dug the Cougar over the 'birds & the foxes over the mn-12s. Now that it's the other way around, I've go a whole new appreciation of the fox 'birds & am not drooling over the cats like I used to. I still give props, but ...well ...it's just one of those things, eh?
i figured someone would.. it all makes sense.. lol
