Title: MN-12 seats in a Fox?
Post by: sarjxxx on November 02, 2010, 03:14:15 PM
So I read somewhere about this before that most seats from other fords will fit in ours so long as you reuse the fox seat track.

The problem however, is that its not so much the seats, but the tracks that I am interested in. I just like the design of the late mn-12's manual tracks much better, with that almost hidden, lever type, pull-up release, instead of ours that pull to the side.

So my point is, are mn12 tracks swappable or do they fall under the same problem as the others?

You have one of each...compare them.

I imagine you're going to find that they will not swap w/o some sort of fab work, though.

Yep its a no go for direct bolt in. It may be able to be refabbed and swapped in, but I'm not sure. I have to look at it more in depth. The major problem I noticed is that the rear bolts are 15'' o.c. apart in the 96 and 14" o.c. in the 88.

I suppose new holes could be drilled and tapped but I don't know how it will affect the position of the seat. The hole that would have to be added would have to be on the door side, since there is no room to move them to the center. If this hole is added it might move the seats to the doors more.

Also there is a secondary rail on the 96 on the center side of the track that sticks up and out. I don't know if there is room for it to fit on the 88 so it might have to move even further towards the door.

The front bolts are the same distance apart, but I don't know if they are in the same spot on the floor. I also didn't check to see if they were the same distance from the rear bolts.

I've always remembered those seats to be too wide.

Yeah. Its not necessarily the seats that I want, just the tracks. If I can get the tracks to bolt to my floor, AND attach my fox seats to them, I would be happy as a clam

You can always make any seat fit, if your willing to go the distance :)

Just in case anyones wondering, they're still a ford seat, 95 ford probe :)  The seats weigh about 8-10 lbs with tracks, sure beats the 50 lbs a side with the power track stock ones I had :)

couldn't you have bolted a plate down to the old seatbolt and drill a hole in the plate for the new seat track to bolt to? or will that not work?

i have a few requirements with my seats in the Sport.

1. They have to be comfortable (I still haven't found seats I like more than Sport seats)
.
2.They have to look like they belong (mine do since they came from a Bird)

3. They have to match front to back. I hate it when front seats don't match the back,no matter what style or how nice the front seats are.It still looks wrong.

4. I know a lot of people like the manual seats, but for me, Power seats all the way.I like to be "just right" behind the wheel.

Mine are a matching set,and they are all getting re-covered probably in the spring of next year.

Im with you on the matching front and back.. I put 80s split bench Riv seats in my 78 monarch. Had to beat the hump down to make them, fit seeing they come out of a front wheel drive car.. lol....They looked like they belonged in the car from the factory....all porno red and everything.. Until you looked at the original back seat. then they looked all out of place.

I just want things to look right in the Sport. I don't want to just throw parts at it because I have them.I have a LOT of stuff in the garage, but more than likely,it'll never make it's way to the Sport.

You know, no matter how nice they may be, I don't think I would disgrace my cat by putting ANYTHING from a PROBE in it.:punchballs:

Thats something I have always wondered when hearing people bitch about how different mustang seat tracks are. Seems like it would be pretty easy to just get two 18" plates and mount them to the existing seat track, and then to the car. It would probably work even better with it on the seat, rather then the track. then you could just use your existing seat track with any seat you felt like.
