I had a guy across the street back into my driver's door (I couldn't open it) a week after some lady hit the driver's front of my car. Both of their insurances paid up. What they will pay is usually more than the door costs at a salvage yard. They paid me a check for a little over $600.00 for my door damage.

Glad to know you love your car as much as the rest of us. I wouldn't lose too much sleep over it. Now, as far as the ins. goes, others can correct me if I'm wrong, (I've never had to deal with insurance companies before) I think what may happen (depending on how bad it really is, post some pics when you are able to) is the insurance company will total it out, being parts are hard to find/ and the car is old. You can probably opt. to buy it back, and fix it yourself. But, before you beleive me, let others who have dealt with it chime in....

Jeez, I only paid a little over $1000 to have my whole car painted!
Get the door, put it on yourself, then get estimates on paint-matching the door, vs painting the whole car (if it's not rusty, rusty cars cost exponentially more to paint).
Either way, get those big estimates forwarded to the insurance company, heh...

Is that all the car needs? If so, get the quotes to the ins. company pay for it, you may get quotes to just repaint the whole car, as it would probably look wierd with brand new painted doors and older paint on the rest...

Who does? LOL I meant is that all it needed from the accident..... You may be able to squeeze a new paintjob, along with the doors. Just get a quote from the bodyshops with the door replacement, and a paint job all the way around. Can't hurt to try.

Well, it's up to you. I say fix the car. Find a cheap door and install yourself. Use the rest towards new pain/mods/whatever you want. Glad it worked out for you.

How good are your skills working on these cars?If you can do it,and do it right, install the door yourself, have it painted (as stated above) to match (shop around and save money),and then you have plenty of cash for engine upgrades,or wheels,or nice exhaust,or whatever. Heck, install the door, take the car to MAACO and have them paint the whole thing for $300.00 and you have a car that looks nice, all one matching color, and, you still have car money left.
