Was there a Material Change for the Trunk Liner Stuff in from 84 to 85and up or so?
Or did certain models get "Special" Trunk materials?
I ask because the '86 Elan in the JY has a very Brittle Thin Plastic backed Light Gray Trunk Liner Material.
While My '84 has a Dark Gray Cardboard backed Material, Same as the '83 in the yard.
This is the first time I've ever noticed the Plastic style.
My 88 is the plastic stuff
Yes, there was a change. For 1983-84 base models, there wasn't much in the way of trunk liners. My '84 GS has a taillight cover panel and carpeting, and that's it. But my '86 LS has a full liner with panels on both sides, carpeting, and a trunklid panel. I would guess an élan would have the same. The 1987-88 cars, IIRC, all had full trunk liners, as I've not seen one without a full liner.
I do know that a full liner was optional for 1983-84 cars but not many seemed to have had that option. But they were cardboard, not like the later formed plasticky ones. My buddy's old '84 Turbo Coupe had a full liner.
Didn't the 85-86 cars have a liner on the bottom of the deck lid?
Good question, I've only seen 2 and they were both on Elans (I bought one, Brittle Plasticy Stuff and I need to repair it)
Would be great if it wasn't an Elan only option (For availability of parts).
I don't know about the T-Birds but the trunk lid liner was 1985-86 Cougar LS for sure. I don't know about the XR7's. It's possible there was something for 1984 but again, not sure; I don't remember my buddy's old TC having one. The trunk lid liners are pretty uncommon.
Every 85-86 TC I've seen has had a trunk lid liner.
the vert doesn't have a lid liner, but the rest of the trunk is
Neither my 85 or 86 TC had one
all my 86 tc's had trunk lid liners.
Both my TCs are the same, carpeted and deadened lower liner, side and rear liners have a plastic backing, and a deck lid lining similar to the upright pieces.
